Cute Story…kind of

Filed under: Observations — mary @ 5:19 pm

Have you received your copy of the hospital’s magazine called “Kootenai Health”?  This quarter’s edition features an article called “A Reason to Dance”.  I love to dance and so does my husband, so I turned to that page and discovered a sweet story about an very mature couple who courted on the dance floor way back in 1938.  Now, at age 88, Loryane, the wife, has just had a total hip replacement surgery at KMC and is doing very well. But, as a couple, they are now able to go dancing again!

My thought, as I read this wonderful love story, was what would happen under the new OBAMA CARE regulations?  No way Loryane would get that expensive surgery at age 88. They would tell her she is too old to deserve that kind of investment, and others in the “system” deserve the “assets”.  Lorayne and her hubbie would just have to tough it out until she dies…probably sooner than later.

Are you looking forward to all the FABULOUS benefits of Health Care for ALL?

PS–Did I mention that the current head of KMC, Joe Morris, told the CdA Rotary Club, last year, that he believes totally in Universal Health Care?

Placing “Risk” in Local Government

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 10:02 am

Mayor Bloem
Coeur d’Alene mayor Sandi Bloem made her annual State of the City presentation to the Coeur d’Alene Chamber’s Upbeat Breakfast this past Tuesday. Her key word was “risk.” So where is the risk in spending other people’s money?

Explain Something, Chistie

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 9:28 am

In today’s Press, NIC Trustee Chair Christie Wood said that the Education Corridor purchase was going forward despite state-wide mandated budget cuts. She wrapped up her points about the Education Corridor by saying that it would:

… provide economic development through educational opportunities.

I don’t have a degree from NIC, but what the heck does that statement mean?

This is a Coeur d’Alene Problem?

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 11:40 am

When I went to the Legislature to try to fix runaway urban renewal, I was rebuffed with the comment, “This is a Coeur d’Alene problem that does not require a state-wide fix.” Two years later, it’s obvious that runaway urban renewal is now a statewide problem. Witness what’s happening in the town of Bellevue, Idaho, population 1,876:

What’s With The GOP?

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 10:45 am

The Democrats are reporting today that the GOP’s traditional Idaho bus tour has been cancelled. The Dems, of course, believe this is because the GOP doesn’t want to trundle through the countryside and face angry voters. But Idaho is still a red state, so that theory doesn’t wash with me.

LCDC Says “NO!”

Landfill
There is an article in the CDA Press regarding the LCDC’s decision not to help a developer remediate his blighted property, which was once a city dump. But in that on-line post you will not read the following paragraph, found in the Press’s print version:

The Biggest Bully

Our government abusing the law? This from reason.com:

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.
