Her Highness’s 2012 Portrait

  1. I think this is a fabulous depiction, personally. Is this supposed to be insulting somehow? It must be because nobody here at OpenCDA would post anything nice about the mayor on purpose. I thought that one of the taglines of the Recall crowd was “oh, it’s nothing personal”, but if you’re posting an “unflattering” caricature of the mayor, well that sure seems awfully personal, eh? That road doesn’t go both ways?

If someone did a caricature of Mary Souza, regardless of humorous intent, you just KNOW she would find a way to overdramatize and write an entire “newsletter” about it and how simply rude and awful the anti-recall crowd are, and I’m sure she would come up with a hot and fresh conspiracy theory about it to boot. What do you think Pariah? How are your art skills?

  2. I think we have all shown great restraint…except you mr. jacobs.
this is art…and cda is a city that appreciates art in all it’s forms.
guess it does go both ways after all.

    Comment by chouli — May 24, 2012 @ 7:14 am

  3. This is childish, tasteless, and definitely personal. What’s next? Is someone going to create a piñata of the Mayor and Council members and have a Fiesta?

I have heard talks about and witnessed respect from both sides of the recall issue, but I only continue to see disrespect from those supporting the recall.

As for saying this is art…no, this is trash.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 9:13 am

  4. Oh good grief Meester, loosen up. Of course it is personal! Have you never seen political cartoons in major newspapers? Have you ever read a major newspaper? Such respected magazines as Time, US News, Newsweek, The Economist and many more, regularly run political cartoons. Such cartoons go back in history. They were published during our war for independence. I can’t believe you consider them tasteless trash. Sorry, that is just ignorant. Meesteer, you will feel much better if you remove that stick.

    Comment by rochereau — May 24, 2012 @ 9:52 am

  5. Meesterbox, you only see disrespect from those supporting the recall–how about the Mayor’s son Curt driving by recallers and heckling and calling them “losers” and the library employee driving by recallers and calling them ass_oles and Jennifer Riggs Drake and her antics–don’t even get me started about her.

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 10:20 am

  6. There is a clear difference between what you say has allegedly happened and something hand drawn that is posted on an online blog. Speaking of heckling, did you watch the latest council meeting where a group of our city elders heckled Mrs. Drake when she was addressing the Mayor and council? Another bona fide example of disrespect. As for your claim of antics, I don’t think I could get you started because I am sure none exist. Unless Mrs. Drake informing the public about why they should ‘Decline to Sign’ classifies as antics.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 11:04 am

  7. Yes, I did watch the latest council meeting and Jennifer Riggs Drake was way out of line, she was suppose to be addressing the council instead she turned her head and very hatefully spoke to the audience who then responded to her.

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 11:11 am

  8. I think you need to rewatch that, but here is what I saw on the video:

Mrs. Drake turned to the crowd and says, “As for the claims this evening, and Mr. Montandon, I am so sorry that you think you have been intimidated, I am going to go on the record right now saying that the Mayor and Council had absolutely nothing to do with it. (cue heckling) Please, please internalize your dialogue.”

So if saying sorry to Mr. Montandon and asking those from the crowd to please (x2) internalize their dialogue is out of line and hateful, then I guess you got me on that one.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 11:38 am

  9. And I think you need to rewatch it.

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 11:50 am

  10. I did watch it again and the only things I have seen today that are out of line and hateful are this drawing and your comments.

    The End.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 12:26 pm

  11. I stand by my opinion of the behavior of Jennifer Riggs Drake at that council meeting. Also, in your quote posted above-you left out quite a few other words she spoke. Further, you calling my comments out of line and hateful is out of line and hateful on your part. THE END.

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 1:13 pm

  12. The ultimate example of disrespect from the antiRecall group came from the father of Jennifer Riggs Drake, Jack Riggs, who called the citizens of Coeur d’ Alene who support the Recall effort “unAmerican”, now that is disrespect!!!

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 1:37 pm

  13. meester, your tunnel vision is truly spectacular!!!! Of course the cartoon was hand drawn…duh!!! All cartoons are hand drawn originally. Did you know that Pulitzer prizes have been given to political cartoons. Have you ever escaped from this insular microcosm that is small town Idaho? I’ve read all kinds of comments in many different areas, your life view is truly warped and ignorant. Honestly meesteer (what does that name mean anyway) you are scary in your narrow minded outlook. However, you are humorous as well! Your commentary is truly laughable in its lack of logic and comprehension.

    Comment by rochereau — May 24, 2012 @ 2:02 pm

  14. Fiftysmtg:

When Jennifer Riggs Drake spoke to the Mayor and Council, she said she is responsible for sending out an email to 200 people asking them to contact Mr. Montandon at his place of business and tell him what you think about allowing the Recall Petitioners on his property. And after listening to her tone of voice I decided she is a cranky woman and I am glad I don’t have to put up with her. I bet she even throws her dog cr p into the neighbors yard.

    Comment by LTR — May 24, 2012 @ 2:29 pm

  15. Mr. Riggs didn’t call any citizens un-American. He said initiating a recall against honest, hard-working, duly elected representatives for doing their job — simply because one disagrees — is un-American. Meaning the act of initiating this particular recall is un-American. In my opinion, supporting it doesn’t mean you are un-American, it just makes you ignorant.

Also, I am pretty sure she just goes by Jennifer Drake. I don’t think she has to hyphenate her maiden name to sound important 😉

But, arguing with you is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut around like it’s victorious. (hence comments #13 and #14)

And rochereau, feel free to belittle me if that makes you feel better, but there really is no need for it. And now LTR jumping on the belittling train and even bring a dog into it. Choo! Choo! All aboard! The belittling train is departing, next stop personal insults-ville.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 2:38 pm

  16. dear meesterbucks, the HOL Olivera website is a nonstop insult in action so don’t act so high and mighty here on this one. just sayin’…

    Comment by chouli — May 24, 2012 @ 2:46 pm

  17. meester, I have other things to do, however I will take a moment to tell you that you really are funny!!!! Your commentary has left me speechless in it’s total lack of comprehension regarding other posts. That is neither belittling or a personal insult. It is simply a fact. Funny funny man.

    Comment by rochereau — May 24, 2012 @ 2:55 pm

  18. So Meesterbox says that LTR even brings a dog into it and in the same comment Meesterbox brings a pigeon into, belittle me if it makes you feel better, but there is really no need for it (your own words Meesterbox to Rochereau) but it’s ok for you to belittle me and compare me to a pigeon. Why does it bother Meesterbox that I refer to her as Jennifer Riggs Drake??? I don’t care what she goes by I call her Jennifer Riggs Drake, she’s not important no matter what her name is 🙂

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 3:54 pm

  19. After reading my last comment, I would like to say what I meant is she is not important as far as this Recall goes. We are all important as human beings, including Jennifer Riggs Drake.

    Comment by Fiftysmtg — May 24, 2012 @ 4:31 pm

  20. meesterbox, you are like hypocrisy in action. You complain about perceived insults to the mayor, and you anticipate retaliation, so you unload your anger with these comments:

“In my opinion, supporting it (the Recall) doesn’t mean you are un-American, it just makes you ignorant.”

“But, arguing with you is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut around like it’s victorious.”

Clever comments, full of sarcasm and vitriol. Not smart at all and not on topic. Watch yourself here or you will be edited.

    Comment by mary — May 24, 2012 @ 5:34 pm

  21. Everything I have said is on topic. Every post was related to this unfortunate drawing or response to something someone else posted in the comments. While I did add a little humor into my comments, most are facts (which I would consider smart), and none of them are in anger.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 24, 2012 @ 7:41 pm

  22. He said initiating a recall against honest, hard-working, duly elected representatives for doing their job — simply because one disagrees — is un-American.

And of course, that is not the case. This is a popular movement, a basic grassroots movement in response to a long series of usurpations, lies and dishonest acts. Not one, but many. That thousands of folks, many who have voted for the targets before, have already signed signals that this is a major issue. That you and Jack fail to see that is your privilege, but it means nothing.

    Comment by Pariah — May 24, 2012 @ 7:44 pm

  23. You say ‘a long series of usurpations, lies and dishonest acts. Not one, but many.’ I can’t come up with one, so I find it odd that you say there are many. Can you give me 5?

  26. OMG meester, have you NOT been paying attn?

NO funds will be used for the Kroc center

$1 million turned into over $3 million awarded contract withOUT a bid to fill Kroc pit

NO funds will be used for library

land swap with the well connected for the library

The old library was to be sold to offset cost to taxpayers for the new

Excess amounts unnecessarily paid out of the LCDC to Riverstone (above and beyond infrastructure

Monies from the LCDC going for PRIVATE use

Stakeholders purchasing properties while sitting on boards

paying the HIGHEST EVER in the state of Idaho using a strawman and skirting the law for a TURDFARM

rubber stamping election canvass simply because the outcome was the preferred

MUCH MUCH more can be listed. This is JUST the tip. I cannot believe you do not have a problem with at least ONE of these things!

  28. Hey meester, there is a political cartoon in todays Press. Does that make the Press trashy and vile?

Actually the caricature of Bloemey is very flattering. It is much more attractive than she is in actuality.

meester, it doesn’t make me feel better to comment on you. I feel fine all on my own, with my own accomplishments. I’ve had a long and successful life. I comment on your posts because they are so narrow minded and down right ludicrous.

    Comment by rochereau — May 25, 2012 @ 8:20 am

  29. The Canyon and Kootenai County Auditors websites publish UR information about creating a tax shift. I just read that the Meridian School district sued their URD and settled specifically over the way property tax money shifts when an urban renewal agency is created in addition to an Idaho State Representatives report Taxation without Representation – LCDC. Unprecedented and I can’t find another legislator specifically identifying the facts and problems like the spending here crossing all kinds of lines. Across the State cities URD’s spending is very questionable with the LCDC paving the way where no man has gone before, just look at the variety and types of projects.

There is no tax shift or tax increase claims a few URD champions who are being paid by URD’s assuring us all is well and no foul because nothing here possibly runs amuck. Taxation without representation is everywhere on this deal.

Assessor McDowell’s job in the case of Riverstone is to assess its valuation that results in millions of the public’s money that is collected from the citizenry but is not paid to the city. Capped as vacant land that required no city services with stable valuation fully funding its share of municipal services paid to the city. Besides the deals initially dealt to the developers uncapped valuation and taxes now paid by Riverstone just are not funding any of the municipal services that the rest of the citizenry pays for and will do so many years to come. Absent this contribution to the Counties budget the Assessor, Auditor, and Treasure process millions each year that Riverstone does not contribute to.

The University’s deal with the City got as mucky as possible with funding, leases, and ownership transfers involving even more riverfront property that for eons was on the tax roles contributing stable tax revenue fully funding its share of municipal services. Assessor McDowell may have a little less to do with the new ownership most likely being a public entity not contributing at all to the tax base point forward. In this case it is not and never will be self-supporting based on contributing to the County and City budgets for municipal services. Watch out Boise and Lewiston citizens should the URD University deal come knocking in your City.

The LCDC paves the way with a variety projects that comes with a ton of controversy that is most often about the sky is the limit type of spending with no blight needed, no location is safe, and no deal needs the consent of the people regardless of type, size, or even financing. But no tax shifting going on – only a few claim that is just impossible.

Eagle City apparently did like the hatchet job to their URD bank account paying attorneys and consultants without doing any projects. URD has be become big business here with ten URD’s in Kootenai County and the LCDC is out receiving them all. Developers make out along with the attorneys, consultants, appraisers, among other affiliates including URD advocate businesses and lobbying.

Nobody can be this ignorant to unintentionally not grasp the multitude of injustice. It is much more then the spending when factoring in the services that provides a drain at everyone else’s expense that the developments themselves and other new construction do not contribute to within the URD areas. Is this what the public voted for when passing the URD laws?

  30. Concerned – I don’t see how any of these are ‘usurpations, lies and dishonest acts’. They sound more like conspiracies or theories to halt progress, i.e. people tried to stop the Kroc Center from being built, but it was and the benefits have been numerous. Just seems like we are fighting a similar battle with McEuen, but it has been stepped with with an attempted recall.

Chouli – meesterbucks…has a nice ring to it, but I don’t necessarily understand what you are trying to accomplish by calling me this. Is it a form of belittling? Choo! Choo!

Rochereau – This isn’t a political cartoon. This is a caricature of someone in our community that is meant as a personal attack. It is personal not political.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 25, 2012 @ 10:53 am

  31. meesterbox,

Who tried to stop the Kroc Center from being built? Exactly how did he, she, or they try to stop the Kroc Center from being built?

  32. Meester,

“Concerned – I don’t see how any of these are ‘usurpations, lies and dishonest acts’.”

So when the Mayor said “No tax money would be used to build the Kroc Center” and then helped funnel millions into that Church property, that was not at least a lie?

What an odd view you seem to have a reality.

Just my opinion but were I your friend I would recommend seeking help. Just

  33. Meester,

    “Rochereau – This isn’t a political cartoon.”

Why do you make that claim meester?

“This is a caricature of someone in our community …”

Yes, someone who is a senior political leader.

“…that is meant as a personal attack.”

Isn’t that the way political cartoons work?

    “It is personal not political.”

How so? This is another odd view of reality there Meester.

Just my opinion, of course. Just

  34. meester

There you go again. You and the ANTI crowd believe “The End Justifies The Means”. I NEVER said that I was against the Kroc NOR any or all of the other projects listed above.

The Kroc pit was estimated at $1.1 million to fill. Contract was awarded to ACI WITHOUT going to bid. They came right back and said Oh no, we underestimated the project by 300% and your mom, I mean, the mayor just cut them a check NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

YES, I have a problem with that and that is just ONE example.

  35. It is funny how I started posting on here just about how I thought the drawing was disrespectful (which it is) and now I have been told I am narrow-minded, ludicrous, I have a stick up my arse, my life view is truly warped, I should go by meesterbucks for some reason, I should seek help, etc. Then some of you started with attacks on Mrs. Drake.

And now the Mayor is now my mother? Classy.

    Comment by meesterbox — May 25, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

  36. Meester victim, awwwww, so sorry.

Of course you are right, of course all of the thousands of citizens who have already signed the petition are wrong, or have been grossly mislead, and of course everyone else posting here is being mean to you.

You are not paranoid or in need of help, you get it! It is everyone ELSE who needs to get help. Not poor, picked on mister meester.

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

PS It is a cartoon – a caricature of a political figure, that makes it a POLITICAL cartoon. Duh.

“……..“Greeks would no longer be able to afford German cars and Germans would be able to buy Greek villas and the young unemployed in Greece would have jobs as tourism booms. The best thing would be that they [Greeks] could blame the foreigners,” Dewhirst said.”

I read this Tuesday morning about Greece leaving the EU and thought about Coeur d’Alene. That’s what this council and mayor have been doing for 12 years.
