Open Session, Snowy Monday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 2:15 pm

deepsnow Do you remember the winter of 2008?  We had much more snow than we do now.  This is a photo of now Councilman Dan Gookin, on his newly cleared sidewalk back in ’08.

Any thoughts about the snow, the city council or anything else on your mind?

  1. JohnA keeps harping on how we get a free park (McEuen Park), because it didn’t cost the taxpayers any more money, except those who live inside the URD boundarys, because those taxes are swallowed up by LCDC to help fund infastructure somewhere in the district.

Yet, he admits that if the city takes the up-to-3% per year tax increase that by law it can take for their budget, our taxes will go up. Most likely, to make up for the deficit created by LCDC siphoning off those tax dollars from their districts.

It’s hard to believe that a mere 7% of the taxpaying public, who live in a URA district will pay for McEuen Park and the majority of the public won’t.

  2. I just got back from Black Sheep Sporting Goods. The most common calibers of ammunition are pretty much sold out. The store is limiting customers to two boxes per person.

I also took a look at Center Target Sports’ Concealed Firearms Class, and it’s booked up for two months. Likewise the Handgun Familiarity and Safety Course.

  4. I have a question.

How is it even legal for the mayor and select members of council to ok an LID tax on a project the people did NOT even get to vote on?

  5. concerned citizen,

The authority and processes are spelled out in Idaho Code, Title 50, Chapter 17. Specifically, see § 50-1706.
