  1. This story broke last week, after Caldwell Guardian blogger Paul Alldredge did a public records request for the Caldwell URD’s check registry. I have made a similar request for the LCDC’s check register. The LCDC has responded that they need to take 10 extra days to respond to my request.

By the way, Paul also made a request of the Nampa URD and they immediately sent him a file of the check register. Unlike Caldwall, there was nothing mysterious or questionable in the Nampa URD’s check register.

Is it possible to draw a conclusion between the amount of time it takes a public entity to respond to a public records request verses what’s in the request that they don’t want the public to know about?

  2. Dan,

I will be very surprised if the material you receive has anything as blatant as the Caldwell URA had in its check register. The method of operation up here with our LCDC is to steer projects that are funded in whole or in part by public money to areas where certain LCDC Commissioners and their business partners already have holdings. That increases the value of the Commissioners’ holdings.

  3. Never say never, Bill, we don’t know what’s hiding in the check register of LCDC!

I can’t believe the audacity of the Caldwell URD. That TV News report is great, Dan. The fact that the head of the Caldwell URD goes on TV and tries to DEFEND buying gym memberships for the mayor and some board members is absurd! Even if the URD gave the YMCA money and they need to “monitor” their investment, the URD should not have to PAY more public money for the memberships.

I’m glad the Attorney General’s office is investigating. They can come up here when they’re done.

  4. Honestly I do not understand how the LCDC can legitimately employ a political lobbyist. Lobbying activities have no constructive relation to any urban blight or renewal project. They have a well paid director and any Boise related business should be well within the directors scope of responsibilities. To have a paid political activist sounds to me to be self (pre)serving and an unnecessary URD expenditure. Does an unneeded expenditure have to benefit a board member to be considered an improper application of taxpayer funds or can misdirected expenditures also be considered improper?

  5. Wallypog,

Bank robbery is illegal, but bank robberies continue when the robbers have no fear of apprehension or prosecution.
