Personal Note

Filed under: General — mary @ 11:57 am

Apparently there’s a notice in the Legals about someone named Rick Souza owing Mt. West Bank almost $150, 000.  A friend called me to see if it was us…NO, it’s not.  Surprisingly, the name Souza is fairly common.  It’s a Portuguese name and is like “Smith” over in Hawaii, where my husband was raised. We’ve heard there’s a large family of Souzas in our general area, including another Mary Souza and another Rick Souza, but we don’t know them and are not related.  Thanks for the concern.

  1. That is funny. Our last name is Stebbins – there is a large family of those guys in this area and in Sandpoint,Idaho. We are not related to any of them. In fact when my husband did his geneology we were hoping we were related to the Stebbins’ Bank but then he found out his great or grandfather was running from Al Capone and he changed his name so he could not be found and his father never changed it back. Come to find out way too late he is a Stibitz which is Lucent Technologies – and this guy was his great uncle. That branch of family was found out too late to establish any close connections – we are also not responsible for any of their outstanding legals. 🙂

  2. I didn’t think that your husband would borrow money from this bank with their LCDC connections.

  3. You are right about that, DoubleSee, Mt. West is waaayy too connected to LCDC, with Charlie Nipp who has been an LCDC member from the start in 1997 and is also a Mt. West Bank Board member and an owner of the bank’s parent company, Glacier LLC, along with Steve Meyer, who is Charlie’s partner in Parkwood Properties which is a local real estate development company and is one of the top 5 private property owners in all of Kootenai County. (They own the Prairie Shopping Center, most of the Ironwood Medical area including the buildings, and much, much more.) Steve Meyer also owns InterMax Communications and hired CdA Councilman Mike Kennedy as President of that company shortly after he was elected to the City Council. Steve Meyer’s wife, Judy, is on the NIC Board of Trustees.

They’ve got it all sewn up.

Oh, and DoubleSee,you might want to know that Charlie Nipp and Steve Meyer own the whole half block of the Bank of America building downtown that faces McEuen Field. Don’t worry that Charlie was Chairman of LCDC when he and Steve bought the land, even though the State law on Urban Renewal (LCDC) says no one on the board can buy land “within the project”, which has defined by the Attorney General’s office as as the urban renewal district, and this land is smack dab in the district. Don’t worry, DoubleSee, because the Mayor says Charlie is a “nice guy”.
