Coeurnac’s 2nd Answer: Something Else You Will Never See in Kootenai County

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 7:52 am

[[[And the question is:  “What is timely, accurate, and complete news coverage of the November 3, 2009, Coeur d’Alene
[[[city election contest lawsuit by the Coeur d’Alene Press or The Spokesman-Review or any radio or television[station?”

[[[By comparison, here is how a real newspaper got and published a public corruption story in its area.

[[[Here is a link to all the Los Angeles Times articles about the Bell public corruption scandal.

  1. The answer is, none of the above.

For a 3rd Coeurnac question, might I suggest:

What local blog site would be the official apologist for a similar scandal in our lovely little city by the lake?

  2. I’m sure every town with public officials who behave like crass frat boys has a blog like HBO, unapologetically supporting the corruption and the crooks while kicking in the teeth anyone who questions the situation.

  3. My observation is that the Press has a pro Kennedy agenda. Whether that agenda is driven by a quid pro quo from Press ownership in return for some favor down the road, well that is a possibility. Regardless, the stories that have appeared in the Press have all been one sided, pro Kennedy, despite what I have seen, and heard about the proceedings from those who attended, including but not limited to Mary’s excellent daily commentaries. It appears as though Mary is reporting daily about an entirely different trial that what is written in the Press. But, as I recall hearing, Erbland was quoted to have said “Fairness is in the eyes of the beholder.” Perhaps what was meant was “beholden”.

  4. Happy Trails,

Both the Coeur d’Alene Press and The Spokesman-Review exist to exert influence on behalf of their owners’ respective business interests. Neither the newspapers nor their owners have an interest in good, honest government that fairly and honestly represents all the people in their communities. Both owners’ interests are identical: Control government officials so those officials will rule in ways that consistently benefit them, the owners.

The last people either Hagadone Corp. or Cowles Corp. would want on the Coeur d’Alene City Council would be Jim Brannon, Dan Gookin, Mary Souza, Steve Adams, or Susie Snedaker. Though one honest councilperson couldn’t influence the votes, one honest councilperson could blow a loud whistle on the City’s backroom dealings. As we’ve seen in the election contest lawsuit, the Coeur d’Alene Press and The Spokesman-Review have fully cooperated with team Kennedy to try and keep information away from the public. It isn’t even mushrooming the people, because with mushrooming at least the people get fed BS in addition to being kept in the dark. The objective of both the Press and the Review has been to just keep everyone in the dark, don’t even bother feeding them BS.

  5. I don’t see how there could be a quid-pro-quo between the Hagadone Corporation and elected officials. When you can bribe them with a free lunch or a twenty dollar bill, there is no need for a quid-pro-quo.

The power players in town like having an easily-manipulated mayor and city council. You’re spot-on Bill. Anyone outside of their control would be an anathema to the way of doing business in Rotten to the Coeur d’Alene.

  6. And, those whom they fear – they want to destroy – like trumping up contempt of court charges without a judge’s order forcing a person to spend money for representation. I see that hearing (Bill’s) has been scheduled out to Oct.12 – late afternoon at 4:00 o’clock.

  7. Stebbijo,

The contempt allegations filed against me by Mike Kennedy may turn out to be Idaho’s first official SLAPP suit. I hope some Idaho legislators will pay close attention to both the allegations and the outcome. Given that Kennedy’s SLAPP suit was directly connected to the election contest lawsuit, I suspect Idaho legislators will be doing some dot-connecting. Idaho is one of the few states that does not have anti-SLAPP legislation.

    Comment by Bill — September 26, 2010 @ 4:39 pm

  8. Idaho actually has pro-SLAPP statutes on the books; if you say or publish disparaging remarks about Idaho produce, the state can sue you to get you to shut up. Because of those statutes, any attempt to get anti-SLAPP legislation on the books is thwarted. I found that out a few years back when I tried unsuccessfully to get anti-SLAPP into law. Jim Clark looked into it for me, and even had Legislative Services draft up something. But the resulting law was a mess because it tried to avoid the minefield of pro-SLAPP legislation already on the books.

Our Legislature (average IQ=80) won’t change things until they are affected directly or until we vote out all the bastards and replace them with people who want to legislate instead of attend parties with the Governor.

  9. Dan,

Our Legislature isn’t any good and our Excutive Branch almost as bad.

You should volunteer for the judicial courts/media committee since you are a member of this media/blog (you can do that because the judical branch ignores the law that says you can’t). Send an email or call Patti Tobias and contact your legislator to be considered. Judical Committees have no RS’s – everything they do is considered public. Their meetings are held via internet teleconference and in face to face meetings. They have the push to get the legislature to make the changes. Since you are a member of this media/blog I would assume that other members of that committee who include Betsy Russell of the SR and Mike Patrick of the CDAPress would be concerned about these types of lawsuits. I have 44 pages of stuff on my blog from that committee.

  10. Stebbijo,

The lamestream media like the Coeur d’Alene Press and the Spokesman Review consider bloggers like us to be not only their enemy but their competition. They are truly unlikely to encourage our being “legitimized” by any official recognition. Why do you think Betsy Russell, the Spokesman Review’s Boise lobbyist masquerading as a “journalist” so staunchly opposed Wayne Hoffman and the Idaho Freedom Foundation’s eligibility to join the Idaho Press Club? Patrick, Russell, et al are journalistic dinosaurs headed for the obscurity of the tar pits. They are not concerned about SLAPP suits, because they promote the same objectives as the dishonest government officials and their “newspapers'” owners. Russell and Patrick are part of journalism’s problem, not part of the solution sought by their former readers.

  11. It’s right here, where the draft of the media handbook to the judges tells them not to lie or mislead reporters and other stuff.

  12. I get it Bill – that is why I push the judicial committee volunteer gig. This from our AG’s office:

It is worth noting that the Court has numerous committees, and it appears that lay (non-bench or bar) citizens are present on many of those committees. If you have a constituent who is interested in volunteering to serve on one of these committees, I recommend contacting Patti Tobias to assist in identifying those opportunities.

We don’t need to vote, we just need to get on those judicial committees who hand down all of their drafts/ideas to one of those 80 IQ legislators. Those committees do not even need the input of legislators for their special handbook that helps all those ignorant judges understand how the media operates.

Trial by media can take on a whole new twist.
