Using Cops As Props in Politics

Filed under: Probable Cause — Tags: — Bill @ 4:47 pm

In July and August this year OpenCdA put up several posts about the municipal corruption in cities of Bell and Vernon, California.  These posts had to do with municipal officials lining their pockets with exorbitant salaries and benefits at the expense of unwitting, low- and medium-income city taxpayers.

Now an alert OpenCdA reader has provided information that Mayor John (Juan) R. Noguez of Huntington Park, California, may have tried to interfere with the city police department’s investigations of major donors to Noguez’s campaign. The October 31, 2010, The Washington Times article written by reporter Jeffrey Anderson, is headlined Signs of municipal corruption spread in L.A. suburbs.  If accurate, the story explains how public officials use law enforcement and police unions for political purposes.

  1. It’s been long-known in Coeur d’Alene, and Kootenai County, that there are two classes of people. The upper class, the chosen ones, don’t get traffic tickets and definitely don’t go to jail — even when it’s a felony hit and run while under the influence with injury to a minor child.

  2. Dan,

Unfortunately not all police chiefs have the traits that Bill Parker and Daryl Gates had to stand up to the forces of evil in the Los Angeles City Hall. Too many chiefs, sheriffs, and state police supervisors totally wimp out and turn a blind eye to corruption in order to keep their jobs and retirements.

  3. The chosen can also call in a favor to the mayor to have DUI’s disappear.

  4. Dan, on this topic….you forgot urinating in public. Buetler said he was “sorry”, but he really had to go”. This (urgent need for a loo) has happened to everyone at one time or another. But most people find an acceptable alternative. You can’t tell me that a word to one of the officers wouldn’t have solved his problem in a civilized manner. The really interesting part is that this incident was not reported in the Press. Buetler is one of the chosen and a big advertiser. Dan, could you elucidate on the injury to a minor child. Was that during this incident?
