Welcome to the School Board!

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:21 am

With surprisingly rude and divisive comments in this morning’s Press article, CdA School Board Chairwoman Edie Brooks sent a strong message to the newly elected board members:  You are not welcome here.  That’s not a good start to a working relationship, and certainly not good leadership from the Chair.

Edie says the board is a democracy, but she seems to have forgotten that our voting system is a democracy and the citizens have spoken at the ballot box.

She also says they have “balance” on the school board. No they don’t.  Edie must have mistaken control for balance.  But now Terri Seymore and Tom Hamilton will bring their extensive business backgrounds to the board; now there will be more independent voices and the beginnings of balance.

  1. Perfect example of poor losers. Typical childish behavior. Stamped her foot and spewed. Poor Edie!

  2. Handwriting is on the wall, a typical reaction for those who realize they are on the way out.

  3. According to the sometimes accurate Coeur d’Alene Press, Edie Brooks has just resigned from the Board of Trustees to move to Latah County.

  4. And so the tradition continues!

Has Ms. Brooks any respect for the election process, she would have announced her plans months ago. The people could have then voted on a replacement in the last election. But, no.

Continuing on 19 years of tradition: Brooks resigns so that her replacement can be hand-picked by the board. The message Brooks is sending to the voters, and her respect for the democratic process, is obvious.
    And disgusting.

  5. It’s deja vu all over again! (Thanks Yogi) Appoint a replacement who will ultimately run as an incumbant. Didn’t I just say that about the CDA council this morning. These people are so predictible. The only time they can come up with an original thought is, how to squeeze more tax money for private schemes.

  6. The community citizens are blind-sided once again. I am so disappointed in Coeur d’Alene School District leadership.

  7. So, here’s my blunt question: Was the timing on Edie’s decision to retire caused by the election results? Sure, she’s now married and has to move, but to announce her decision so suddenly? Right after her favorite didn’t get re-elected? Is it because she wants to appoint a replacement before the new members arrive on the board? That’s my guess and, if correct, it’s repugnant.

If you respect the power of the voters, Edie and other board members, you’ll wait until the new board members are in place before appointing a replacement.

  8. From the article this morning, her term doesn’t end until 2013. So an appointment would have been made in any case. This doesn’t mean that she wasn’t avoiding transparency. She did know she was married and that her husband had health problems. Clearly she chose to wait until after the election to announce. As much as I dislike assumptions, I would assume that she felt her retirement would hurt Powers election. Whatever…

  9. Respect the power of the voters? Good Luck on that one.
