Let’s DO Something About It: RECALL

This is it, dear Readers, it’s finally time to stop the begging and pleading with our City Council. It’s time for action. It’s time for a Recall.

The Idaho State Constitution puts the power of government directly in the hands of the people. Article 2, section 1 says this: “All political power is inherent in the people.  Government is instituted for their equal protection and benefit, and they have the right to alter, reform or abolish the same whenever they may deem it necessary.”

Over and over again the people of CdA have asked the City Council for a vote. Large groups of citizens have attended meeting after meeting pleading for a voice in the major decisions and massive spending projects undertaken by our city.  Respectful, intelligent, informed citizens have spoken out to implore the Council to listen the will of the people. But time and time again our Mayor and the same half the City Council have chosen to ignore the public’s requests.

We, the people of CdA, now deem it necessary to reform our local government for our protection and benefit.

The Mayor and half the council say, “you voted for us”.  Well this recall, according to Idaho Law, will put them back on the ballot one year earlier than their regular cycle and let the people decide.  We will finally get our vote!

A recall of Mayor Sandi Bloem and Council members Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers will be filed with the CdA City Clerk tomorrow, Wednesday, April 4th, at 10:00am.

This recall is not personal; it is a serious undertaking by determined community members who want responsive, accountable government. We’ve been working for more than two months to prepare and organize this recall.  And now we’re ready, but we want your help!

Please join us as we gather in front of City Hall tomorrow at 9:30am for a Recall Rally before the recall filing paperwork is delivered inside.  Bring a homemade sign that says “Recall”, or whatever you want (be respectful please). There will be some printed signs available also. TV cameras and newspaper reporters will be present.  Some folks think this news may go national, so let’s represent the people of CdA well.

Many of you have emailed me with frustration during the last few years, asking when we can really DO something about the way some of our city  officials treat the public.  Well now we can. It’s our time. Let’s get our friends, family and coworkers to join with us and take back control of our city.  We can do this!  We can change the course of CdA.

Back in1876, President James Garfield said that people are responsible for the government they get: “If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them…”

See you outside City Hall tomorrow morning!  –Mary

  3. I support the recall wholeheartedly!! That being said, it becomes imperative to remind everyone that “RESPECTFUL” commentary and behavior must be projected at all times. Believe it, these four will use every statement they can to detract from the truth. I hope that the requisite number of signatures is collected. But the biggest battle is getting out the vote if it occurs. It can’t be merely a majority, it must be greater than received in the previous election. And if this fails and you think Bloem is arrogant now, well folks,”you ain’t seen nothing yet”.
