After Today’s Voting, What’s Next?

Filed under: Probable Cause — Tags: — Bill @ 9:49 am

What happens after today’s city-fire district elections?

The next important date is Thursday, November 17, 2011, at 1:30 p.m.  That is when the Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to canvass today’s elections.

To better understand the function and importance of the election canvass, see Chapter 13 of “Election Management Guidelines” published by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

As Coeur d’Alene residents learned from the 2009 City election, our present mayor and council “rubber stamped” the election results without asking any questions. But on January 1, 2011, the Idaho election laws changed a bit.  This year’s city elections are administered by the Kootenai County Clerk under statutory authority rather than under contractual agreement as had been done in the past.  Thus, the canvass will be done not by the cities but by the Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners.

  1. “Kennedy said the plan to remake McEuen Field evolved out of a “long process” – months of work by a citizen committee working with a design team. Though he acknowledged that the election “absolutely” affects his thinking on McEuen, he said it doesn’t change his mind.”

    OK, what is next?

    RECALL!

  2. And the Mayor needs to resign. Now.

  3. Not to sound mean, but really, in Mr. Kennedy’s words what comes through to me is that his mind doesn’t think??? 🙂 I guess he really means that he’ll think a lot about not changing his mind. Words mean things…sometimes.
