More or Less Government?

Dear Readers, Here’s a letter about the difference between capitalism and socialism in our country, especially in the race for the White House.  This copy was sent to me by the author, but is actually part of a back-and-forth email “discussion” between childhood friends who now, as adults, have differing viewpoints.  I thought it was particularly well written and that you would enjoy it.  (more…)

Open Session, Weekend

Here’s a shot from Tubb’s Hill–the planned burn of slash did not happen yesterday, so it’s still a good time for a walk.  National politics has pretty much grabbed the whole stage lately, but there’s still a lot going on in our city and county.  Don’t forget our local elections and other important issues.

This morning’s Press featured a headline that grabbed my attention.  It was about a lawsuits filed by  “watchdog” citizens down in southern Idaho who question the actions of their urban renewal agencies.  What a concept!   (more…)

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.

Does it Hurt to Ask?

Hazel Bauman, recently promoted superintendent of our CdA school district, was quoted in today’s paper as saying “…it doesn’t hurt to ask.” She was referencing her new $3.5 million dollar request to LCDC for improvements to Sorenson school. This could be fun.  (more…)
