Debbie Does Dulles

DWSchultzOn Monday, July 24, 2017, Special Agents of the US Capitol Police (USCP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Capitol Hill IT contractor Imran Awan as he tried to board an airplane at Dulles International Airport and fly to his homeland of Pakistan via Qatar.   The FBI affidavit supporting his arrest alleges Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, filed a fraudulent mortgage loan application.

Hina Alvi had already pulled their children out of school, stuffed over $12,000 in cash and some household goods in cardboard boxes, and left the United States (some might say “fled the United States”) for Pakistan.

Before July 24th, few readers could probably recall hearing anything about Imran Awan.   They might have heard something about some damaged computer equipment belonging to some members of Congress being found at a home rented by Awan and his wife.   They might have read deep into the already sketchy skews stories that one of the computers found belonged to Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  In fact, good ol’ Debbie threatened the USCP in public if it dared process the purloined computer for evidence.

Otherwise, because the AWAN storyline did not involve pimping unsubstantiated gossip about President Trump’s “collusion” with Russia, the national skews media weren’t especially interested.  Nothing to see here.  Move along.  Move along.

Except there was and is something to see.

It seems that Representative Schultz had arranged for Industrious Imran to be the go-to IT contractor for several Democrat members of the House of Representatives, some of them on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.  In fact, Industrious Imran and his partners had each been raking in an unusually high amount of money from these contracts for several years.

OpenCdA urges our handful of readers to take the time and read the series of articles by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

There are quite a few reasonable and interesting questions likely to be asked by the USCP and the FBI to determine if the computers and the emails on them contained any personal or national security information that could be used to manipulate and control the members of Congress on behalf of any foreign intelligence service.

  1. Bill, I can’t connect with why someone would want to bribe elected officials or take money from a foreign government or, generally, commit treason. Is the goal purely financial? I mean, hypothetically, would someone sell out their country because they want a boatload of cash? Or do they do it because they feel it’s the “right thing” to do? What motivates someone to do this?

  2. Dan,

The motivations that cause people to commit espionage against the country and then rationalize the behavior are pretty much the same motivations that cause some elected and appointed officials at all levels of government to become corrupt. Frequently the relationships that facilitate either espionage or corruption are developed over time, and they are almost always based on the misplaced trust by the person being recruited for espionage or corrupt public purposes.

Some people do commit espionage on their own initiative. Bradley/Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden come to mind. They saw themselves as noble whistleblowers rather than traitors, and that rationalization made it much easier for them to gravely damage the national security.

For a little more complete explanation of some of the most common motivators used to recruit and control both spies and corrupt public officials, see my OpenCdA post entitled Of M.I.C.E. and Men and also the subsequent post entitled From MICE to RASCLS.

In this particular case and in similar cases, public officials sometimes hold themselves in too high esteem. They’re smart and clever enough, they rationalize, to control and put a lid on something which in their self-interested myopia they see as being merely a political embarrassment. They institute cover-up measures. Sometimes the coverup works, other times it engulfs the officials in a criminal conspiracy. The more the official’s entanglement, the less the Universal Idaho Defense (I’m intentionally ignorant of the law so I can’t be held accountable for complying with it) can be invoked successfully. By the way, the Universal Idaho Defense does sometimes work in other states, too, and certainly with some US Attorneys.

  3. I won’t go into detail but I have very good sources … should give this to the Daily Caller but I cannot. So purposely, I am going to be vague. Paul Ryan is fairly quiet for a reason these days. There are Republican politicians who can hardly wait until it is all over with. I am fairly overwhelmed how true this is and I have not realized until just a day or two ago, just how hated our President is … unfortunately, the deep state does not care that the people elected him. He is hated by many republicans and we also know by democrats, I just did not realize how badly or why. Our President burns lawyers and he is very very good at it. I believe we are experiencing what may not be a formal coup but it is something more than payback. The establishment is the deep state and they are wolves in sheep’s clothing. It is ugly and I am uncertain that our President will be able to surround himself with trustworthy people. Debbie Does Dulles is a very big win, but will soon be another forgotten win without consequences. I was floored when she was elected to office. She is part of the establishment aka deep state, it is how it is supposed to be and how they want to keep it. This is all getting seriously ugly.

  4. Stebbijo,

Is this letter what you’re referring to?

  5. This letter is new to me, but it confirms what I know and heard … those signatures that are not on that letter states a lot. It also confirms what I feel is happening and mainstream news appears to be setting the stage for the fall of our President. I hate to say it and it makes me nauseous, but conspiracies happen, they are real. Raul Labrador just went up a very big notch in my book.

  6. Stebbijo,

You’re very observant. The missing signatures are as telling as the ones on the letter.
