The conversation about the sudden stop of the NICE bus service has been growing at the end of the Embezzlement thread, so I thought we should bring it up to become it’s own topic. I’m going to copy many of the comments we already have and put them here to keep the discussion going. (more…)

Illegal Voters in CdA!
Wow, finally the Press has the news I’ve been wondering about: The headline on this morning’s Local Section reads “Three Charged with Voting Illegally” (I would link to the online version of this article, but it’s not there because they usually don’t post the Local section online.)
The three accused of voting illegally are Nancy White, Ronald Prior and Susan Harris. They face up to six months in jail or $500 in fines if they are found guilty of this misdemeanor. The article details that Nancy White is scheduled to go to trial in March. She has plead “not guilty”. Prior and Harris don’t have a court date yet.

I apologize, Ron
I did not mean to call Ron Edinger dumb, because I don’t think he is. What I meant to do was to point out that he often acts as if he does not understand something, when in reality he probably understands it very well. I was commenting on Ron’s behavior last night as an elected official at the city council meeting, not as a person. Here’s what I said: (more…)

NOT Frivolous, Pay your own
Kennedy wasn’t in court today. Neither were the mayor or other council people. The only one in attendance from city hall was Chief City Attorney Mike Gridley. (you know, Mr. Shove it….)
There were two issues brought before the court: (more…)

JohnA: “LCDC does not levy taxes”!
Happy Monday, JohnA. You can’t be serious, trying to say that LCDC does not increase our taxes! Sure they are not a taxing district and don’t levy taxes themselves, but they divert taxes and in doing so they cause ALL the property taxes in Kootenai County to go higher. The highest rates, of course, are for those living within the city of CdA.
Here’s JohnA’s comment just a short while ago:
Susie, please inform your downtown business owner that if he (or she) hadn’t paid those taxes to LCDC, they would have gone to the other districts on his tax bill. Remember, please, that LCDC does not levy taxes. They get taxes from the increase in the owner’s property value since LCDC was created in 1997, and those taxes are based on the budgets set by all of those other districts on his tax bill. It is a diversion of taxes to LCDC that he (or she) would have to pay in any event, and only because their property increased in value. Thanks.

Kathy Sims Hits the Bullseye!
Kathy Sims wrote a terrific My Turn Column for this morning’s CdA Press, where she hit the target on an important but elusive subject. She addresses the NIC board of trustees’ attempt to bypass the constitutional right of the voters to decide whether NIC, as a public entity, can go into long term debt. I’m thrilled to read her clear, no-nonsense view of this fiasco, and am very glad she’s going to Boise to represent us.
Great job, Kathy!

The Phil Hart Conundrum
I went to the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC) meeting last night, and it was packed. Standing room only and not much of that left either. (more…)

Voter Fraud in Vegas?
Did you see the newest headline on the Drudge Report?: ” I WENT TO VOTE AND HARRY REID’S NAME WAS ALREADY CHECKED!” It appears that more than a few folks in Nevada are complaining that when they’ve gone into their voting booths, the electronic touch screen they use to vote is already checked for Harry Reid!
Of course the Election Officials claim there is “no fraud” and that the voters must “have faith in the system”.
Sound familiar?

A Humorous Interlude
One of our readers sent this to me, and it made me laugh out loud:
There is an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.
This year’s term was “Political Correctness” The winner wrote: (more…)

Dan English’s Bombshell
Remember the famous Press headline “Canadian Voters May Decide Our Election”? In the televised debate last night, on Channel 19, Dan English, our County Clerk running for re-election, mentioned that the Federal UOCAVA overseas voting law was implemented in our local election because of a “mandate” from the Secretary of State. I thought that was surprising. He implied there was no law, it was just a directive from the Sec. of State!
So, today, on the Press blog under the article, I asked Dan English two questions. Please read our exchange and give your opinion: (more…)
