Dems don’t Care

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:16 am

This morning’s Press had an article (though it reads like an opinion piece) about the Dems refusing to support the investigation of our County Election System.Too bad the Democrats can’t see the forest for the trees; Thom George is stuck in attack mode and is unable to grasp the importance of this issue for Democrats as well as everyone else.

What do you think about the Dems’ viewpoint?

Here’s the response I put on the Press web site:  (more…)

Voter Fraud USA

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:13 pm

It’s not just here in good ‘ole Coeur d’Alene, serious voter fraud is being uncovered in other places too.  By Democrats and Republicans.  Sloppy procedures, improper voters, outright illegal voters and highly questionable election systems.  Check out these  short video links:

The first one addresses the narrow 314 vote victory of comedian Al Franken for a US Senate seat from Minnesota.  New research shows that far more than 341 convicted FELONS  in that election.  Hmmm…here’s the link: http://thehuffingtonriposte.blogspot.com/2010/07/comedian-al-frankens-joke-on-us.html

The second short video deals with the 2008 Democrat Presidential Primary:  Hillary vs. Obama.  The documentary referenced in the video clip details serious voter intimidation at the polls, sloppy sign-in procedures and purposeful turning away of registered voters who might not vote for Obama.  It’s very good and worth the time. Here’s that link: http://www.breitbart.tv/new-documentary-charges-obama-stole-nomination-from-hillary/

And of course, you have probably been following the Black Panther voter intimidation case from the 2008 election, which has been in the conservative news quite a lot lately.  It is outrageous that the Dept. of Justice is not fair and even-handed when dealing with these cases.  Isn’t justice supposed to be blind?

Here’s a good link to that story: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203550604574361071968458430.html

Read the Law!

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:20 am

My Newsletter this week, in the post just below this one, addressed the city law controlling the use of alcohol on public property.  One of our alter readers sent me this excerpt from the Spokane gossip blog, which picked up on my Newsletter, then asked City Attorney Mike Gridley to respond.  He agreed with me.  Here’s what he said in the email he sent them:

“I agree that this code section could be read to prohibit a closed container of alcohol from any public property, including streets and sidewalks, although I have never heard of it being interpreted or enforced that way by the Police Department or city prosecutors.  The ordinance probably needs to be changed to clarify what “public property” means for purposes of this statute.”

Nice to hear that this problem, which obviously went unnoticed by the highly paid legal staff at the City, and by the Mayor and City Council, will now be clarified.  Does it bother you that our officials don’t seem to READ the laws before they pass them?

Personal Note

Filed under: General — mary @ 11:57 am

Apparently there’s a notice in the Legals about someone named Rick Souza owing Mt. West Bank almost $150, 000.  A friend called me to see if it was us…NO, it’s not.  Surprisingly, the name Souza is fairly common.  It’s a Portuguese name and is like “Smith” over in Hawaii, where my husband was raised. We’ve heard there’s a large family of Souzas in our general area, including another Mary Souza and another Rick Souza, but we don’t know them and are not related.  Thanks for the concern.

Poor Christie Wood

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:24 pm

The City has insulted one of its own.  Apparently the City of CdA has named the $50,000 bunker in city park, “The Christie Wood Safety Building”.

Can you believe it?  When did that happen?

According to this morning’s CdA Press, in an article about police on bicycles, the reporter referred to “The Christie Wood Safety Building” in city park.  Since when does the city name buildings, or  even sheds, after a living person?  And since when to they name anything after a current city employee?  (Christie is a Sgt. in the police dept. and is their Public Information Officer)

This is a slam against poor Christie because the “building” named after her is really a utility shed!  It’s a small, cheap, concrete structure that looks like a hot dog stand.  It is rarely used, has no heat, no bathroom, no telephone, no amenities and it’s closed most of the year, except around Ironman.        What are your thoughts?

One Person, 6 Votes?

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:19 am

Only New York could come up with this type of convoluted thinking:  Give every voter 6 votes in the County Commissioner election (they call them Trustees)  It was a FEDERAL judge who ruled that this “one person, 6 votes” method was not only valid but essential to FAIR elections!

“(Voters) cast multiple votes on the instructions of a federal judge and the U.S. Department of Justice as part of a new election system crafted to help boost Hispanic representation.”

Maybe Kootenai County was ahead of its time with the last election?

Susie S: Are Decent Rentals hard to find in CdA?

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:59 pm

I don’t think so.   Susie has some serious questions about the City of CdA’s plans to build “workforce” housing.  Keep in mind that workforce housing is not the same as “affordable” housing, which is for low-income folks.  Workforce housing is for employed people like nurses, teachers and fire fighters.  Is the City really trying to convince us  there are not enough rentals or houses available in the moderate price range?  Have they noticed the real estate drop of the last two years?

Here’s what Susie Snedaker said:  “I read that the city will be purchasing a property from the school district for an amount determined by a 2009 appraisal. It appears the city is unaware that property values have tanked this past year… It seems that “decent rents” are difficult to find. ”

What do you think?       (Link to the CdA Press article here)

We Need Harry Today!

Filed under: General — mary @ 10:13 pm

The following is an email forwarded to me by a reader, with the winsome hope that we can find a modern day Harry Truman. What are your thoughts?

Harry Truman was a different kind of President.  He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation’s history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.

The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in  Independence   Missouri . His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.

When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an ‘allowance’ and,  later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.

After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to  Missouri  by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.

When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, “You don’t want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it’s not for sale.” (more…)

Open Session: Primary Election

Filed under: General — mary @ 6:51 pm

Time to wait and see, people.  The polls will close tonight at 8pm, with counts starting to come forward about 8:45 – 9:00pm.  But as one of our astute readers said,

Dan English is still counting the votes, so how much trust can we place in the system?  Your thoughts?  Who are you supporting?
