Open Session, Monday

Quiet weekend?  There are still many topics to discuss, on a local and national basis.  Any thoughts, ideas or questions?

  1. Quiet Weekend? I guess so! But today is Primary Elections. Remember Dana Walsh running in California’s 8th district for the seat held by Nanci Pelosi? She spoke to a very enthusiastic crowd at a Tea Party rally at State line in December. Well she came close but lost the Republican nomination to John Dennis. Dennis was the Ron Paul go to guy in San Francisco. Don’t really know much about either one of them.

Does anyone think Dennis will be able to ride the Dump-The-Incumbents avalanche and bury the reign of Pelosi?

  2. Maybe this is the calm before the storm. I see that the next hearing on the Brannon vs City case is scheduled for next Monday – 06/14/2010 03:30 PM. Can anyone explain the mumbo jumbo on ISTARS? What is going on besides Kennedy objecting to everything?

  3. Stebbijo,

There are some motions to be considered in the elections contest lawsuit. It should be interesting, though.

There is also a hearing on Wednesday, June 16, in our NIC-NIC Foundation lawsuit.

  4. I read that the city will be purchasing a property from the school district for an amount determined by a 2009 appraisal. It appears the city is unaware that property values have tanked this past year. At any rate, the property will be developed for low to moderate income property. It seems that “decent rents” are difficult to find.

On another note, the city will spend HUD grants for low income senior housing located, note this, 2.7 miles from the nearest services. The developer will be bringing in big money federal tax credits while seniors are stuffed away from the bustling city. Perhaps it is thought that they don’t have enough disposable income besides what will be required for transportation to places not served by City Link. I think a better location would be the Midtown property currently owned by lcdc and Idaho Housing. If not there, there is quite a bit of vacant property at Riverstone.
