Kootenai County’s payables are now posted on its website www.kcgov.us , under the Clerk’s division and the Auditor tab. “This project has been supported by all the County’s elected officials,” said County Clerk Cliff Hayes.  “Getting specific descriptions for each expense entered in plain language has been a team effort by numerous County employees who process invoices for payment.”  The most recent payables report is online now; new reports will be posted weekly.  Details about the May 17 elections of school district trustees and highway district commissioners are also available online.  (more…)

Press Release from County Clerk

Filed under: General — mary @ 3:13 pm

This info was just sent this afternoon from the Kootenai County Clerk’s Office: A Short History of the Cd’A School Levy Ballot

The Coeur d’Alene School District developed the March 8 ballot language, not Kootenai County’s Elections team.  County Elections’ staff discussed the implications of the ballot language with school district personnel numerous times in the last six weeks.

“For the School District to say we did not understand their intent is disingenuous” said Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes.  “We confirmed their intent several times.” (more…)

School Levy Tuesday

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:49 am

I’m curious about the first paragraph of today’s full page Press ad in favor of the CdA school levy.  Did you notice it?  After the title and subtitle of the ad, there’s a section, in bold letters, that says this:

“An anonymous group is trying to paint the picture that our school district is a fat cow with an “insatiable appetite for spending”.  Not True! Funny, this group is backed by an organization out of Spokane Determined to rid Idaho schools of funding.  Doe we want Spokane influencing how we choose to support our children’s  education?” ……………………..Thoughts on this?  What do you think of the levy?

Good-Bye Urban Water?

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:32 am

Yesterday morning I attended the meeting the City Council had with the volunteer Steering Committee and the paid Team McEuen, which is made up of the architects, engineers and landscape folks.  It was in the conference room at the Parkside Tower on the 3rd floor, and was well attended.  I bet there were 40 meeting participants around the table and about 25 members of the city staff and public off to the side in chairs–we could only listen.

Team McEuen ran the meeting. They showed slides of the public questionnaire results (you know, from the  flawed survey form that didn’t ask about the boat launch or the ball fields).  They reported high approval rates for most everything proposed, but Team McEuen admitted that some features should be reconsidered.  The items on the list for reevaluation are:  (more…)

Press Release from Cliff Hayes:

Filed under: General — mary @ 4:02 pm

Here’s the Press Release sent to us from the County Clerk’s office.  The cover letter said something quite interesting:
“We’re sending this out to you directly because the mainstream media has chosen to disseminate nothing on our division’s recent progress, and Cliff promised transparency during his campaign for this office.  We plan to issue press releases monthly.”

Kootenai County Clerk’s Progress:  Serving Customers & Increasing Internal Controls

Six weeks into office, Kootenai County Clerk Clifford T. Hayes is cautiously optimistic.  “We’ve taken several steps to better serve customers”, Hayes said.  “We’ve met with taxing district representatives, learned what they want us to do better, and agreed to supply them with more information.  We’ve extended work hours to include Saturdays from 9AM to 2PM to serve County Assistance clients and to process passport applications in the Recorder’s office, starting March 5.”  (more…)

Want More on McEuen?

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:56 pm

The city council meeting last night was packed. Every seat was full and people were lined up all around the sides and the back of the room. Almost everyone had a paper sign that read “McEuen Park PUBLIC VOTE”, and after every speaker was done with their 5 min. testimony, the crowd silently held up their signs. It was great. 13 people spoke to the council. I was last person to speak and I asked everyone who was in favor of a public vote to stand up…the whole room seemed to be on their feet. Most folks also held up their signs. it was a clear message to the council.

But NOT ONE city council member made a motion to put the subject of a public vote on the next city council agenda. They all chickened out. Even Ron.

If you are interested in the McEuen plan, and want to know more,  the city council is meeting with the Steering Committee, for the first time they say, tomorrow morning THURSDAY, May 3rd at 7:30 am at the meeting room in the ParkSide Tower. I think that room is on the 3rd floor. The public is allowed to come to this meeting but will not be able to speak.

Why isn’t this meeting going to take place in the Library community room, so it can be on TV channel 19?

McEuen ALERT!

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:02 pm

It’s time for action!  Tomorrow night, Tues., March 1st, at 6:00pm, the City Council meets for their regular meeting in the CdA library downtown.  We need YOU to join us as we fill the room and let the city council know how much the public wants a vote on the McEuen plan.  This is the only way they will listen.
Please bring everyone you can and let’s pack the house!  Let’s be impossible to ignore.  We want a say on this massive plan that will change our city’s heart forever.  Will you sit on your couch and wait for someone else to do it?  Or will you get out and come down the the library for an hour…..come on, WE NEED YOU.

See you tomorrow evening–Mary
