Please pray for our country today.  Please ask God to inspire and motivate the citizens of our nation to demand protection of our basic rights; to awaken the apathetic and create in them an awareness of the tenuous condition of our precious constitution.  (more…)

Our lives are full of complex issues, but “tax increment”, which is the kind of money used by LCDC to fund urban renewal projects, is not difficult.  Understanding the concept is easy if you ignore the layers of big words LCDC likes to use in describing tax increment; they want it to be intimidating.   (more…)

Over and Over Again

This past Tuesday, once again I attended a CdA City Council meeting and, once again, I left  shaking my head in disbelief.  It was not because the council disagreed with my views, my frustration was because they again neglected to do their due diligence for the citizens of our community.

And because, also once again, they used outlandish and disrespectful intimidation methods toward people who stood up to voice concerns.   (more…)

Now the government has taken over General Motors.  Hundreds of profitable auto dealerships are being closed down against their will, sending 100,000 more people to the unemployment lines.  And we also now have a “Pay Czar” who will not only control the income levels for businesses taking government bailouts, but will also set the standards for private business that has not.  The government thinks they know best; they will tell business how to run itself and how to pay its employees and executives.

Is it time yet?      (more…)

A Matter of Public Trust

board_brad Last week the CdA Press ran an article about local realtor Brad Jordan and his two business partners when their longtime GMAC real estate enterprise closed its doors.  Their business declared bankruptcy and left in its wake a long line of folks waiting for payment.

Normally a business bankruptcy would not make headlines and is certainly not unusual in our currently challenging economy.  This situation is different, however, and is a concern for our community because Brad Jordan holds two important positions of public trust.  Brad is the Chairman of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and he is also on the board of LCDC, our urban renewal agency.    (more…)

School district 271 is in transition, I hope.  Since taking over the top job last June, Hazel Bauman has made several bold moves, but serious questions remain about whether she has, in fact, stepped away from the status quo.  (more…)

Dear Newsletter Readers,

It’s been a busy week, with the governor, legislators and congressmen in town, and some important citizen rights issues in question.  I see in this morning’s Press that the Idaho Attorney General has decided the identities of citizens bringing questions to their legislators are protected information.  That’s a relief for everyone advocating for responsible government!    (more…)

Everyone wants a bailout.  Every hand is outstretched, begging for government money.  But government doesn’t earn money, it takes it from us, the taxpayers.  Each dollar they give to help some ailing industry has to come from our wallets.   (more…)

Workers Rights and Private Votes

Idaho is a right to work state. People often believe that right to work is bad; that it bans all unions and keeps wages low, but that is not the case.Right to work does not keep unions out. It does not set wage limits. It gives every worker the freedom to join a union or not join, and their job cannot be taken away from them, whatever their decision about membership.  (more…)
