MAX Benefit?

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 4:51 pm

Spokane County is being considered for a Boeing plant to build the new Boeing 737 MAX.  If Spokane County is selected, what if any benefit would northern Idaho see?

Are you trying to manipulate those who are part of this blog?

  2. However, Rathdrum and Post Falls might be good candidates for small industrial manufacturing.

    I agree.

  3. Why is it a good idea to encourage out of state employers to come to n. Idaho and provide jobs for persons who move here to work for the new employers? Why not concentrate on assisting employers who are already here to grow and provide jobs for the persons already living here?

  4. Out of state businesses would only relocate if the move would result in savings to their company. They are looking for tax incentives, great deals on property and buildings, low energy costs and wages. So who benefits?

  5. Joe Six-Pack,

How does this list fit in with your suggestion?

This list may be more applicable.

I see that both lists show some places with Plummer addresses. For clarification, Plummer is in Benewah County, not Kootenai County.

  6. 7 of the top 10 employers in Kootenai County are government. Odd.

  7. Justinian, that’s why our taxes are so high, to protect us from ourselves. The old saw ” Those that can do, those that can’t teach.” The same with spending other people’s money, “To make your life better.”

  8. Since the city council is so committed to ‘jobs’, why doesn’t it divert the ‘non-tax’ money from LCDC and use it to fund a job incentive program for Cda employers

  9. justinian,

    I noticed the same thing.

  10. JohnA, people with ideas like yours in government are destroying this nation. If you want to stop making a fool of yourself, you really should distance yourself from this blog. Going after grants to avoid losing them to some other entity is very unpatriotic. There is no money to grant. Get it?

And we get more government programs tun by more government employees who pay more tax money into government employee unions who will elect more big government socialists who will apply for more “free money” government grants and then we get more government programs tun by more government employees who pay more tax money into government employee unions who will elect more big government socialists who will apply for more “free money” government grants and then we get more government programs tun by more government employees who pay more tax money into government employee unions who will elect more big government socialists who will apply for more “free money” government grants and then ……

  12. Gary, the feds allocate $925,000 annually for Kootenai County for public transit, and it is matched almost entirely by the Tribe and KMC to provide the total $1.6 million for CityLink. If the County did’t utilize the grant funds they will go to other entities. That’s the way it works. I’m sorry you don’t understand that. I am not the fool here but I agree that I need to stop posting on this blog.

  13. JohnA,

It is YOU that still does not get it. The money is not FREE federal dollars or not. Like a computer with a virus, the WHOLE government needs to be shut down and taken to experts that will bring it back on line starting with the main operating system and security ONLY. I am SORRY that you want your video games, and flash forward extra super fast whatchamacallit but the fact is ALL of it TAXES the system as a whole. Our system is BROKEN. I get at least one phone call per day telling me that there is “FREE” government grant money just waiting for me. REALLY?

I agree with Gary Ingram, people with ideas like yours in government are destroying this nation. You look at taxes collected as a bottomless pit. It is all additive to those of us in private sector. The feds want theirs, state wants theirs, the county, the city, welfare, workers comp, SSI, disability, schools, NIC, tech school, library, parks, jail, roads, groceries, gas, etc, and last but not least YOUR PENSION. Every flipping person in government from the president on down to the street worker no matter HOW much time or how many terms they “serve”, their pensions, health, at least 3 months off during the year PAID with tax money.

Maybe we should become a socialist country. Is that what you are shooting for JohnA? You should have supreme say over where one should live or what they should have? After all, your ARE doing it for our own good. Help EVERYONE that will NOT help themselves.

  14. “There is all the difference in the world, however, between two kinds of assistance through government that seem superficially similar: first, 90 percent of us agreeing to impose taxes on ourselves in order to help the bottom 10 percent, and second, 80 percent voting to impose taxes on the top 10 percent to help the bottom 10 percent — William Graham Sumner’s famous example of B and C decided what D shall do for A. The first may be wise or unwise, an effective or ineffective way to help the disadvantaged — but it is consistent with belief in both equality of opportunity and liberty. The second seeks equality of outcome and is entirely antithetical to liberty.”

  15. cc, you get “at least one phone call per day” about free grant money? REALLY? Are those calls to your residence?

    Comment by Eric — November 30, 2011 @ 8:05 am

  16. Great conversation! I like your Milton Friedman quote, Justinian. Seems to me that B and C always like to tell D what to do for A. It’s the same thinking that brings us government-imposed charity.

And it removes any personal connection to taxpayer money, so JohnA’s infatuation with government grants makes them seem magical. Voila…free money!

  17. Hey everyone, just saw this in the Spokesman: Boeing will build their new plane in Renton. Here’s the link: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2011/nov/30/new-boeing-aircraft-will-be-built-renton/

  18. This is apparently the agreement that sealed the deal for Boeing to keep production in the Puget Sound area.

I wonder if the Spokane County people feel that Boeing might have been stringing them along?

    Comment by Bill — November 30, 2011 @ 12:13 pm

  19. I guess Spokane isn’t as “EDUCATED” either. :-/

    Eric,
Yes, REALLY, I get calls DAILY at my business telling me how I qualify as a small business for Federal grants.

    Comment by concerned citizen — November 30, 2011 @ 6:09 pm

  20. Mary, had you bothered to fully read my comment #62 you’d see that the Tribe and KMC contribute over $600,000 for the nearly $1 million in Federal Transit Administration grant funds for CityLink. You may think that the $600,000 is ‘free’ but I assure you the Tribe and KMC do not.
