Open Session, Friday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 9:25 am

‘Tis the Season…are you ready?  As we approach Christmas, what do you think has been the most hopeful improvement in our community this year?

Any other thoughts are welcome too.

  1. Without peer, it was the last election that put Dan Gookin and Steve Adams in office. This has offered hope for the future. It is the first important step on the journey of much needed change and will bring some civility and respect to the council. And should bring about open discourse. I think it will also provide some amusement as we watch Bloem, Goodlander, Haskell and the (poster boy for modern Tammany Hall) Mikey Kennedy grimmace during the meetings. What it won’t do is cause Bloem to raise her eyes from the table or treat the public with respect. But then, one can’t have everything!

  2. Hassel will be gone and so will John Bruning. So this is how the new council will look, if they keep their same seating order:
From left to right looking at the council, it will be Kennedy, Adams, Gookin, Mayor Bloem, Woody, Deanna, Ron.
Could be lots of fun to watch!

  3. There have been a series of letters to the editor in the press between a concerned citizen and the mayor of Post Falls regarding the use of a 1997 Lincoln by the city of Post Falls. The letter was answered by non other than the mayor of Post Falls himself. The letter from Mayor Larkin was answered completely, respectfully AND he even thanked the citizen for looking into their concern without being condescending for asking even though the citizen is not a resident of Post Falls but from the neighboring town of Rathdrum.

I would like to extend a “TWO THUMBS UP” to Mayor Larkin for displaying the proper way to respond to concerns in a timely and respectful manner.

  4. Cliff Hayes and the election improvements is very refreshing. Thank you Mr. Hayes, Kootenai County Election Clerk!

  5. Here’s a question for both Concerned Citizen and LTR, and of course anyone who wants to weigh in on this:

Do you think the citizens of CdA have forgotten what good government looks like?

  6. Oh yes Mary!!! Additionally, all Americans are confused about good government. We are represented (in the main, not all) by self serving politicians. Few of whom would ever be invited to grace my table. Here in Idaho, we should question a state govt. that keeps Phil Hart in office and, biggest gasp of all, the ill named “ethics” committee clears him of unethical behavior. Never mind the ethics which he apparently never possessed, how about not paying taxes which is a federal offence. Or one of my favorites, stealing timber. “Good govt.” long lost in the foggy mists of time.

  7. Yes, Mary. If we expect less, that is exactly what we will receive in return.

  8. If we accept poor performance of our govt. officials, our children will never know a higher standard.
