Weekend Inside Open Session

First Snow 2008
It’s beginning to look a lot like . . . last year! Well, at the start of things. I’m wondering whether there will be enough of the white stuff on the ground for me to shovel before it gets dark?

Naaaaaaa!

  1. Though there isn’t much accumulation yet, the combination of wet snow and right-at-freezing temps are making road conditions dangerous. Multiple accidents in the Post Falls – Rathdrum – Spirit Lake – Coeur d’Alene area.

  2. I just got home and my little subaru was having a hard time stopping at intersections…the ABS was kicking in and I was sliding. Be careful out there people!

Yea, these darn Californians don’t know how to drive in winter conditions yet. ;~)

I hope it snows all winter unrelentingly. Why? Because, this native will make some money.

  4. As a native of Spokane, I love the snow… for about 2 weeks until after Christmas, then it could move into spring and I’d be happy! But hey, Kageman, glad you’ve found the silver lining. It is beautiful.

  5. Kageman,

I suspect the residents of Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, and Placer counties in California would disagree with your comment about their driving skills in snow.

Being from Palouse (the town, not the region), I hope there is enough snowfall before the temperatures drop to near-zero and below. The snowfall helps protect the fall-seeded crops.

  6. Now that the super-duper-never-wrong radar is showing the front came through and pushed most of the snow to the south, I went out and shoveled out the driveway. Thus assuring six to nine inches of snow before nightfall.

But stealing from George Carlin, the radar is also showing a string of incoming Russian ICBMs, so don’t sweat the snow.

  7. Here’s what Christie Wood said in part, on another blogsite and the title of the blog was:Ed Board Puts Harbor Center Lease On Hold

She states:Mr. Nilson claimed Mic Armon said their would never be Professional Technical courses offered on the Corridor site. What Mic actually stated is trades and industry would not likely be offered on that site. Health/science courses are categorized as PT.NIC is working in partnership with Mr. Nilson, the Manufacturers Consortium, and the three local school districts to develop a PT facility for trades and industry on the Prairie site. These types of programs require more space. NIC has put $200k toward the prairie purchase and those negotiations are continuing.
We are committed to increasing PT course offerings for our students. Academic transfer courses continue to be the preference of students. The Board has not placed a value of one over the other. Academic tranfer an PT courses are both vital to student success.
The Board is committed to a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase property adjacent to our home campus that will secure our future needs for expansion.Posted by Christie Wood | 13 Dec 11:23 AM

(I think it’s too bad that Christie Wood can’t post something on the CDAPress.com website.)

Yet they cut the PTE budget first. Deeds, not words, Ms. Wood.

Academic transfer courses continue to be the preference of students.

But it’s a community college, not the “student college,” and the community could use more PTE students because we have jobs for them. Right now. Good jobs. That’s Mr. Nilson’s point.

The Board has not placed a value of one over the other.

Oh, pish. They just placed a $10,000,000 value of one over the other. Does Ms. Wood actually attend the Board meetings she chairs?

  9. mr nilson is the the business of hiring welders it is no surprise that he wants welders trained for him. i guess what you want nic to be depends on who you are.

  10. Well, a doctor’s office obviously wants NIC to train their nurses for them. So by your logic, reagan, NIC should stop training anyone who works for a for-profit venture? Boy I’m glad I got my education before the reagans of this world took over! 🙂

  11. hiring welders is a good thing raygone. training them is too. why does north idaho college have a six figure investment in books of the soi-dissant ‘gay’ lifestyle? is that a way for citizens of north idaho to make a living? welding is. plumbing is. electricians training is. dental tech training is. what does the huge investment in queer studies earn us raygone?

  12. Okay, TheWiz, that’s almost over the line. I believe reagan (note spelling) may actually be a big supporter of private education over public education. At least that’s another way to read his/her post. As such, it would make sense that people pay at a private institution for education that leads to a for-profit type of lifestyle. But if we are to adopt that argument, what would the public institutions teach? Or would there be a need for public education? An interesting point, if we are to adopt what I believe reagan is pushing.

  13. I heard Ron Nilson say that there’s no way he’s supporting this PTE effort to get workers for his company specifically. He represents a coalition of many area manufacturers that collectively are responsible for 7,000 employees. Ron has said that for the time and money he has personally donated to this effort, he could fly in welders and put them up in hotels!

Ron, and others like him, are supporting PTE because they believe it is a good option for both the students and the community.
