  1. The guy must be doing poorly in his law firm to want to take on this thankless office. A good attorney can easily make the Prosecutor’s salary in about four months and not have to put up with the public scrutiny that attaches to the office.

  2. Classless Johnny strikes again.

  3. Pariah, We all just consider the source of the comment. Unfortunately you’re correct.

  4. And maybe he has already made his fortune (on his own) and would like to FINALLY make a difference bringing integrity in a opportunist environment John.

  6. Clearly, Will Rogers never met Pariah OR Wally.

One heart one soul just one solution,
One flash of light yeah one god one vision

  8. Well, no wonder. I was speaking tongue in cheek and forgot to include the smiley face.

The fact is I don’t know why people run for office, especially the way they are generally treated on sites like this.

  9. There are many talented people in the community who are “stepping up” to make a positive difference in the community. Don Gary is one of them. John Austin must be afraid of a challenger for the current prosecutor. Thus, the slams early on…….. Kudo’s to Don Gary!

  10. There is a saying John “If the shoe fits………”

There are a lot of people that also get praise for their honesty, integrity and doing what they were elected to do, represent ALL of the people ……….. ON THIS SITE! Not the select few.

  12. I’m impressed that he has a strong accounting background as well as law. Hopefully as the campaign progresses we’ll learn more about his administrative skills.

If the name of his firm sounds a little familiar, it’s because Spokane’s new City Attorney-designate, Nancy Isserlis, is also a principal in Winston & Cashatt.

  13. A strong accounting background? A real danger to the smoke and mirror crowd then. No doubt a degree in urban forestry would be their first choice, women’s studies second maybe?

  14. To get a non-layman’s perspective on some of the responsibilities of a prosecuting attorney, follow this link to the opinion pieces on prosecutorial misconduct in the February 2012 issue of The Advocate, the official publication of the Idaho State Bar.

  15. He certainly has my vote!!!!

  16. Anyone who is above ground and with a pulse has my vote over the current prosecutor. The new candidate fits those requirements and, as a bonus, is EXTREMELY QUALIFIED! John A’s initial comment was way out of line. Heaven forbid that a qualified person have an interest in community service. John must not have had any commitment and was just interested in a steady pay check from the gubbermit.

  17. I had no intent to cast bad will toward the candidate. It was an attempt at wry humor. In fact I see he is not only qualified but also generous as well: he and a partner donated the final $14,000 for the new ice arena.

Add this to that: I think all positions should be contested every time and not just in the primary. That gives the community a chance to value their elected officials and their accomplishments. That’s why the Hart race in District 2 will be interesting, not only in the primary but also the general with a democrat running.
