Game On!

Filed under: General — mary @ 2:32 pm

The Recall CdA Petition has been accepted and certified by the City Clerk, so now the forms can be printed and then the signature gathering can begin!

  1. Signature gatherers better remember to use 8 1/2″ x 14″ (where does one find it anymore?) that is 24 lb wgt. The games will continue until all the petitions are submitted, approved as to size of paper (most important), and each signature checked and double checked to verify that each individual signatory is registered to vote. The petitioners better make sure that each signature is not just legible but CLEAR or it will get tossed. If any question is raised about a signature, it will be tossed. Had so much detail been paid to the fact that a measley few more absentee ballots were counted than were actually received, or to the validity of signatures on absentee ballots, this would never have occurred. The votes of the council would be 3-2 against the Queen and her court. She would never have had to cast a tie breaker. Betcha these ‘visionaries’ did not see this one coming when they certified the election in 2009, without so much as one single question.

  2. Now I am confused. I just read the Cda Press article today which in part states: “A reason is needed, the city clerk’s office said after its legal team reviewed the petitions, so the city can formulate language to counter the effort so Coeur d’Alene voters can decide when they vote in November – if the matter gets that far.”

Why would the “city…formulate language to counter the effort”? Seriously, does the “city” have a dog in this fight? It should be each individual council person’s obligation to defend against the recall. Each one is individually subject to the recall. Not the city. There should not be a moment of city employee time, or a penny of city money spent, “to counter the effort.” Steve and Dan should be on top of this issue and make sure that “city” time and money is not expended to defend this recall.

  3. very insightful,up river, Good points. I hope Dan and Steve adhere to these suggestions.

  4. up river,

Let us not forget that the Coeur d’Alene City Council (the former, not the current) approved $69,660 to pay Mike Kennedy’s personal attorney in the election contest lawsuit. So it is almost certain that City resources will be misappropriated to help make sure the recall is defeated.

  5. Get your volunteers trained well. These forms will be scrutinized by folks looking to invalidate every line, every page. Document everything you do, especially your interactions with City officials. Plan on getting grossly more signatures than you need, submitting them way earlier than you need and be prepared to lawyer up. The other side will, that you can bet on.

    Just my opinion. Just.

  6. Justinian,

You are absolutely correct — as was “up river.”

  7. I thought the city paid Kennedy the money to settle a lawsuitthat he was filing against it. I am wondering; Why would anyone want the type of person that would sue the city, for money, to be on the city council? Where I am from such a person would receive a one way ride on a rail.
Bill’s post #4 made me think back to a recent post I read here about the “Loyalty Oath.” Two of the oaths of allegiance that were taken by Kennedy state:
(1)“I will acknowledge and support the City Administrator’s authority to make decisions.”
(2)“I will participate in and contribute to the council’s goals, decisions and progress while working toward consensus.”
This makes me wonder–How can a city council member who has sworn allegiance to (1) Support the City Administrator’s authority to make decisions, and to (2) Participate in and contribute to the council’s decisions while working for consensus, sue the city for its manner of handling the election contest when the council member swore to do these two things? When the city agreed to pay Kennedy to prevent him from suing the city didn’t its administrators, lawyers, and council members know about the “Loyalty Oath”?
In reading the earlier posts on this site, chronologically backwards, I came up with other questions. How was it that Kennedy on May 27, 2010, could, given his oath, (1) permit Scott Reed to write a letter to Mayor Bloem that states “With the excellent work of your [city’s] attorney Mike Haman, positive progress has been made [in the election contest]”—- and then FIVE DAYS LATER permit Scott Reed to file a Tort Claim on his behalf against the city that claims that Kennedy “suffered injury or damage as a result of the City of Coeur d’Alene failing to defend him in this [election contest] lawsuit.” Seriously? I have heard about ‘forked tongues’, but seriously? The city’s attorney is doing a great job, and five days later he is doing a terrible job? How could Kenndy claim that “the city placed [him] in Seat 2″? Didn’t Kennedy participate in the council’s vote that placed him in Seat 2? Didn’t he cast a vote in favor of the city adopting the election results?
What fun it will be to follow this recall.

  8. Kennedy needs to go! Your thoughts are interesting “up river” but those thought’s will fall on deaf ears within the city, for they follow no rules. Just check out their new policies, especially employee policies. You could find some interesting things within these documents.

when are the petitions available for signature?

  9. “I thought the city paid Kennedy the money to settle a lawsuitthat he was filing against it.”

And the unanswered question, did the City issue a 1099 after they paid? Did Mr. Kennedy pay his taxes on that money?

    Just asking. Just.

    Comment by justinian — April 5, 2012 @ 9:34 pm

  10. Lexacon, welcome. The petitions will be ready to sign this Saturday. Headquarters will be open from 10-2 and 4-7 everyday except Sunday.

You are welcome to come to the headquarters to sign. It’s in the Sunset Village, just off of Hwy 95 near Las Chavelas restaurant. Phone is 704-1596.

All petition signers must be registered voters in the city of CdA, but people helping don’t have to live in the city.

  11. An interesting question came up elsewhere and I would like to make sure it stays at the front and get asked/answered repeatedly.

Is the city using city time and/or employees to fight this recall? It would be totally wrong for those being recalled using taxpayer funds since the recall is for the council and mayor, NOT the city itself.

  12. A story in today’s Press, “Second time’s the charm,” stated that Sara Meyer and Jennifer Drake were leading the anti-recall campaign. Might Sara Meyer be related to Steve and Judy Meyer?

    Comment by Susie Snedaker — April 6, 2012 @ 7:55 am

  13. Indeed Susie, the Meyer – Nipp – LCDC – Ed Corridor gazllionaire family. And Jennifer is part of the doc-in-the-box Riggs semi-gazzillionaire family.

They are heirs to the “pretty people” who own North Idaho and they are not going to let go without a bruising and expensive fight. Their strategy is already clear. It is a defense in depth with multiple cut-outs along the way. They are getting expensive advice and are bringing in serious outside resources.

Watch for the Gallatin Group to get involved, if they are not already. (That is a left wing group now run by a former Larry LaRocco myrmidon with close connections to the North Idaho dems and their money.)

    Comment by justinian — April 6, 2012 @ 8:05 am

  14. What is the “doc in the box Riggs”?

I had to laugh at the Meyers comment that “we won’t let these people take over our city”. Uhhh…doesn’t the city belong to all the citizens and haven’t Meyer Nipp etc. people taken over the city and it’s monies for years?

  17. What do I win…what do I win???

Freedom. The right to vote. The sovereign power to recall from office those who lie and abuse you. A republican form of government with checks and balances.

Congratulations Roch, what you have won, by being able to see the real world, is a precious set of rights. Guard the well my friend, for there are those who hate you having them.

  18. Did the Gallatin Group have a connection with the BNSF refueling station?

  19. If the names Jack Riggs and Jennifer Drake sound familiar, follow this link and check the names on the list.

Pita Pit restaurant is at 320 Sherman downtown, CdA. Corporate headquarters is at 105 North 4th Street, CdA.

  21. Does anyone know where one could find the names of the persons who are members of the cda police association that is opposing the recall? Is the association operating under some sort of a tax exemption?

    Comment by up river — April 6, 2012 @ 1:10 pm

  22. up river,

Most of the police officers are part of the association. They can’t be forced to join but if they don’t there may be consequences down the road.

City employees knows who signs their paychecks and provides the benefits. If they wish to keep their jobs, they have to be part of the team.

  23. Sounds like a great prize to me pariah……and oh the possibilities!

  24. This just in: You will all be supremely surprised in November, if in fact you get the required signatures in the first place. One thing will be sure: This town will see a turnout unlike it has ever seen before, with all of the supporters of the Mayor and Council showing up in force. No more of this 26% turnout this time. Already the supporters of the Mayor and Council are organizing with both money and clout. It will become a landslide of cash making sure accurate information is presented and the mistruths rejected.

Dan is wise to avoid this one because it will not end well for the recall folks.

There. Now attack the messenger, as is wont on this site.

  25. Already the supporters of the Mayor and Council are organizing with both money and clout.

Johnny is right on. The wealthy, the “pretty people” who OWN the Lake City are not gonna give up easily. The nasty, Alinsky radical left is mobilized and engaged. Heed what Johnny says, he knows what he speaks of here.

It will become a landslide of cash…

Yep, the “Inside Connection” crowd has money and Johnny gets it right. They will be out in mega force.

  26. John,

You are such a laugh. Typical government type. You minimize the down and maximize the up. Lets look at the anti rally.

    1. They gathered INDOOR.

    2. At a STAKEHOLDERS warm and cuddly business.

    3. There was food and drink.

    4. Most have something to gain from the project.

Heck man, how do you even know if I showed up for the food and drink? Gotta infiltrate the enemy ya know. LMAO
