Open Session, Final Weekend of 2008

imgp4091 Merry Christmas and happy last days of ’08.  Here’s the question at hand:  Are you sad to see this year end?  Or do you have higher hopes for ’09?

Other comments, questions, ideas?

  1. I do hope that everyone has removed the snow from their home’s roof. I had mine done yesterday. There is now a pile of snow outside my bedroom window 8 feet high!

There were a couple of power dips down here in the Fort Grounds tonight. Both rather brief, but very dark.

The roads will get nasty when this warm slush freezes. Be careful out there!

  2. Let’s all hope the legislature can get thru this session without raising taxes. The Gov. has sent a clear message about budget cuts. We are already get the soft sell that 6% sales taxes is not enough in the SW corner of the state.

Lastly, be generous with what you have. The economy is dealing out some harsh stuff to people for stuff they had no control over.

  3. We’ve noticed something with the 5 and 6 p.m. news broadcasts on KREM TV out of Spokane. They always lead with the chubby weather guy this way:

Blizzard conditions throughout our region tonight. We have reporter Fritz Frostbitten in Spirit Lake, Idaho, standing in three feet of snow, and we have reporter Windy Weatherstruck turning seven shades of blue on the West Plains by the airport. They’ve been freezing their rear ends off out in the weather for the last hour prepping for their 30-second standup, but first, we’re going to our nice, warm studio where Chubby Weather Guy will use radar and technobabble to blabber on for five more minutes to make sure our reporters have near-death experiences. Take it away, Chubby Weather Guy.

  4. In line with Bills post above, in my previous home, we had a protracted power outage. When my power returned, I turned on the TV news to be met with the following; “for all of you still without power, we are informed that they are working as fast as possible to restore your power”. True story, just how did the TV station think that those without power would receive this message?

Interesting story in yesterdays paper (and yes, this is just one side of the story). An executive asst. to Priscilla Bell is suing NIC for improper dismissal. Seems she felt that Dr. Bell was using taxpayer funds for personal travel and at a higer cost than necessary. She claims she was fired for pointing this out to Bell and for booking a less expensive flight. If true, this is typical for this area…don’t rock the boat or you will lose your job. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
