Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — Trespass and Vandalism

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:25 pm

Apparently Stop the Recall (“Decline to Sign”) had too many signs no one wanted, so they decided to deposit 12 of them in front of this recall supporter’s home near downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

  1. I notice Mrs. Drake is spinning a yarn over at HBO that this is as a result of either drunkards or teen pranksters. If it was drunks, they were the most focused and committed inebriated people on the planet. As for teens, it seems plausible, but probably was not. Most teens don’t have the foggiest idea about the Recall, nor would they take the time to steal 12 anti-recall signs and look for a recall supporter’s home to deposit them.

My vote is it was a young spry anti-recaller up to more of their craziness.

  2. Dinosaurman,

Thank you for your good analysis. I’d add that the offender would probably be found to live or work nearby and travels that street often. I’d also suggest it is likely someone who has personally expressed displeasure to the homeowner about the homeowner’s support for the recall.

  4. concerned citizen,

No, but I’ve come to realize that acclaim and recognition from a bunch of washed up dead-tree journalists starting with Thompson and Patrick at the Coeur d’Alene Press and the Spokesman Review and ending up with the national whores of journalism at the likes of CNN, MSNBC, Faux News, and the New York Slimes is meaningless. They lack the skills and abilities to even come close to reporting the depth of the commitment among the citizens of Coeur d’Alene who are working for the recall of four very dishonest city officials. The quality and commitment of the people in Coeur d’Alene who have been steadfastly working for the recall could never be accurately or completely reported.

  5. Bill, you forget Hasslinger. Long before the recall I found him to be, shall we say wanting, in the journalism field. His syntax and punctuation were more or less non-existant. Now you can be sure his byline will be on every recall story printed. Giving it some thought, if he had the least bit of talent and/or intelligence, he wouldn’t be working for the Press.

I have seen the anti-recall signs in Hayden on the busier streets. And my laugh of the day is the above the fold story about the Mayor and her family removing their business from a local hardware store. But hey, how dare one describe this action as retribution. Hubris and arrogance must surge through their DNA. Just when one thought they couldn’t be any more disgusted by the antics of Bloem and Co., they do it again. When you live in this town, you need an oxygen mask to replace that which they suck out of the universe.

  6. rochereau,

Hasslinger is only a reporter. Ultimately the decisions to report and publish are made by the editor and publisher.

Hasslinger got it wrong in the story today, too. At least four times in the online story, he identified the victim of the serial (12) sign depositor as Tom Maze. His name is Tom Kane, not Maze.

  7. I would not have given the signs back. I would have thrown them away. Seems justified.
