Way nifty stuff, buuuuuutt… The country really does need to go on a spending ‘crash diet’. Concentrate federal dpllars on what is necessary for awhile, until the economy rebounds. When it comes to space applications I’d think the earth orbital projects deliver a lot more bang for the buck. Earth orbital science is accessible to private industry now, and augmenting that with pioneering gov’t foundational work may result in a much better and faster ROI. Finding little green, long dead Martian microbes may be of grand intrigue but not much else, except very expensive.
