NBC Snooze is reporting that former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has just been convicted on several federal corruption charges including racketeering, bribery, and extortion.
Here is the New York Times report just issued.
Here is the Detroit Free Press report about the verdict.
Here is the Detroit Free Press timeline of the events leading up to Kilpatrick’s conviction today.
He will get a token sentence and when he gets out he will be re-elected to his old job as mayor or perhaps move on to Congress. People love their elected officials and are adverse to change. Look at Jesse Jackson Jr. they still love him. Marion Berry… they still love him and put him back in office when he got out of prison for cocaine charges.
The other thing that is really annoying is that city employees control elections. If they are all in the we like what we have for elected officials then they will remain in office. Most of the city employees live in town, their friends and relatives will vote in any manner supported by a family member on the city payroll.
