Stakeholder Sign-Up

Everyone in Coeur d’Alene knows that to be really heard by City Hall you must strive to become a stakeholder. Once you’re a stakeholder, you’re in! You’re accepted. Heck, you may even get some free money from the LCDC.

Stakeholders include any political or government insider, elected officials, board members, secretive groups, loud-mouths (but only loud-mouths who praise the status quo), and other sympathetic apologists for what goes on in our home town.

To apply to be a part of the exclusive group, and get to sit in on meetings, consume free government cookies, donuts, and coffee, just post your name below. I’ll compile the list and send them into Mayor Bloem right away!

Hurry up! Don’t miss out on your chance to become an Übermensch of Coeur d’Alene! Let your voice be heard! More than once!

  1. Once you’re in, can you retire or do you retain your “inside connections” for life?

  2. Yes, I want to have a say in the future of our town! Please add my name to the Stakeholder’s list.

  3. Oh, wait, you mean I have to say YES to everything? I have to be a “team player”? I can’t speak my mind or ask questions? Nevermind.

  4. You don’t have to be an invertebrate to ask, only to get the position.

  5. I am in – I want on the North Idaho Housing Coalition. My only criteria is – please don’t hold the meetings when I have to work or I won’t be able to afford to attend. 🙂

  6. Count me in too. I want to set up my office in the vacant old public library. That is of course only if all of the sidewalks are in good condition around the building. That way I can be close to the Midtown project for affordable housing. The citizens and business owners in Midtown will need a stakeholder to complain to when they see
how much the LID will cost them. Being a stakeholder will allow me to ignore all of their questions and concerns, I will just point out that since the Midtown area has a unique character that doesn’t quite fit what is envisioned by the city powers; they will just have to pay for this new vision anyway since they obviously are in a wealthy section of town and can afford it. I can then brag to all of my fellow stakeholders how I ignored the wishes of the regular citizens of this great city. If I am rude enough and totally uncaring to others and thus prove myself to be a worthy stakeholder, maybe I could strike a deal to buy one of these affordable housing units.

  7. Okay, I am out. I don’t want the complain position in the old library where I think/remember Lousisana Pacific used to set up camp. doubleseetripleeye can have it. I just want to know where they get their statistics that prove the median income for this area.

  8. I would also support planks – any cull will do – for sidewalks if that would help get me the statistics. 🙂

  9. I was a government insider. Had to have a frontal lobotomy to qualify for the job. As I progressed, they gelatinized my spine. You really don’t want to know what they amputated to make me a supervisor.

  10. OK, this is getting weird. Let’s have a real list of people wanting go participate in their local government. No lobotomies, just willingness to lend a reasonable voice. Put me on the list of takers.

  11. Actually, I thought it was pretty funny! I took a look at the city website to check out their job opportunities. For some reason, I don’t think they would hire me. However, there is part time receptionist position for 11.93 an hour. I am probably over qualified – but I might be able to get the Field Inspector position.

  12. Mary,

I didn’t realize you were serious.

We are participating in our local government. We, not the hired help in the dirty sandbox that is Corrupt d’Alene City Hall, are the government.

No, I don’t want to sign up for a Corrupt d’Alene City Hall “official” stakeholder secret decoder ring. For one thing, I can’t afford the Mayor’s $50,000 membership fee. Moreover, I think we are already stakeholders in the community, we just don’t have the Corrupt d’Alene Mayor’s seal of approval. Nor do I want it. I do not need or want Bloem’s and her toadies’ validation of my citizenship.

  13. My point is that if many regular folks come forward as part of a new “Stakeholder List”, the city might actually have to include more of the public in it’s process. Right now they simply decide who the stakeholders are, from their list of controllable people, and then claim the public was represented.
