Here’s an interesting website:  Idahoans for Open Government (IDOG)

  1. Is this a government website? I noticed that our Secretary of State in on the Board of Directors. It looks private because
    asks for donations. What?

  2. Stebbijo,

IDOG is an Idaho corporation. It is not a government agency. There is nothing to prohibit the Secretary of State from being on the board of directors.

  4. Bill, maybe we should put a link to this web site on our Blogroll.

  5. Stebbijo,

It’s worth looking at. If it’s got information you can use, go for it. It is heavily influenced by newspapers (note who’s on the board) and is likely to reflect that bias toward newspapers.

    Mary,

While it is focused on Idaho, there are a lot of good journalism websites that do a much better job of discussing the overall topic of open government. My comment to Stebbijo applies, too. In my view, IDOG has good projects but the website is so-so.

  6. My friends, you might want to consider another point of view as to the newspaper connection comment about IDOG. It is not as if it were some evil force at work. On the contrary, I view the press as the gatekeeper of the public’s right to know. In reality, we depend upon the media to inform us about these public meetings that too aften go astray. There are several recent local examples where the print media, in particular, has called attention to Open Meeting Law violations and filed actions with prosecutors, both locally and state.

  7. Gary –

Could you tell us about the ones specific to this area – Coeur d’Alene, Idaho?

It appears that some of the folks affiliated with IDOG may be selective – when they pick and choose their battles. Is that what you mean by the “press as the gatekeeper of the public’s right to know?” I wonder why they have not decided to take up issues with some of the alleged open meeting violations here in CDA – like the one you supposedly filed a complaint about?
