For those who are planning to attend the June 4, 2013, Coeur d’Alene City Council meeting and offer any public comments, well, be prepared to sit through the entire meeting first.

The Agenda for the June 4 meeting posted today on the City’s website shows that public comments have been moved to the end of the meeting.

ADDENDUM 05-31-2013 @12:20:  Apparently in response to OpenCdA’s post, the Agenda for the June 4 meeting has been modified to include public comments on the two most controversial items.

  1. One might surmise that the mayor and some council members find public participation annoying. When items of such importance to so many are on the agenda, how is it possible to justify making decisions without first listening to the public?

  2. Awful sneaky of Queen Sandi. You don’t think they wanna hear opposition to their little anti-bias ordinance do you. Disgraceful tactics, and form typical to her administration.

  3. Susie,

It is possible because we have a Mayor and three members of the Council who aren’t interested in what the public might say.

  4. Justin Cottrell,

Both the anti-discrimination ordinance agenda item and the tunnel to the parking garage agenda item have very significant elements of controversy in them.

It would not be a huge surprise if the Mayor reconsiders and moves the public comments item back to its previous position near the beginning. Unfortunately, that relocation may not come until the meeting has convened and the agenda is amended to correct a “good-faith error of miscommunication.” Neither would it be a huge surprise if only certain people (e.g., representatives of the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations and the Black Ridge Properties, LLC) were told of this restoration well in advance of the meeting’s commencement.
