What’s Missing? (Hint: Dan and Mary)

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 8:49 am

What’s missing here?

OpenCdA was begun in 2008 by Dan Gookin, Mary Souza, and me.  If you follow the link, you’ll see that except for Dan’s name on the original entry on February 1, 2008, both Dan’s name and Mary’s name are gone.

When Dan decided to run for Coeur d’Alene City Council, he properly withdrew as a member of OpenCdA.  He no longer originates posts here, however he does occasionally comment.  And thankfully, he still takes care of the frequent software updates needed.

When Mary decided to become a candidate for Mayor of Coeur d’Alene, she also properly withdrew as a member of OpenCdA.  I put up a post on June 1, 2013, on OpenCdA explaining that both of them had officially withdrawn from OpenCdA.  Mary’s comment on the preceding day’s post provided some additional information about her not making blog comments.

Because OpenCdA is an LLC, it was necessary for Mary to formally notify the Secretary of State’s office of her withdrawal from the LLC.  Here is a link to that filing.  Effective June 17, 2013, Mary severed her association with OpenCdA LLC.

  1. Bill, anyone that has met Dan knows he tries to do the right thing in everything he does, everyone also knows that to officially withdraw really doesn’t have much meaning for example.
“Dan occasionally adds comments to post here and Mary has given me permission to reprint her email newsletter when distributed”. Newsletter or blog, kinda the same thing aren’t they?

  2. Mike Teague,

I may not understand your question exactly. Dan chooses to occasionally comment on various blogs, whereas Mary has chosen not to comment on any. Their choices, their reasons.

Dan and Mary chose to withdraw from OpenCdA so they could not reasonably be held responsible for my posts and comments. I believe Dan and Mary recognized when they became candidates their opponents would try to associate my posts and comments with them. The choice of what gets posted on OpenCdA and when it goes up is mine and nobody else’s.

  3. I comment here, but I’ve not posted anything since 2011. My duties include maintenance. As such, I backup the database monthly or before a software update. I also perform the software updates and “maintain” the site, although it’s pretty self-maintaining. The database backups are stored long-term on my computer. I receive no compensation for performing this work.

  4. Dan

And the CEO, CFO, COO, HRD, MIC, KEY, MOU, SE, and staff of OpenCdA (they would be me) appreciate it!

  5. Bill, I don’t see the difference between Ms. Souza posting on the blog herself and you posting her newsletter, in fact I don’t understand the need for Dan or Mary to distance themselves from OpenCDA as long as they own what ever they write like Dan and you always do. Anyone that reads OpenCDA and doesn’t know the three of you support each others endeavors is well, dumber then even me. I should also add that moving away from something without a need, for reasons I can’t explain, adds an air of shadiness
You have no idea how glad I will be when this election is over so we can all get back to discussing things that nobody disagrees about like let’s say religion.
