Coeur d’Alene, Idaho’s newly-installed Mayor Steve Widmyer is wasting no time in appointing his cronies to influential committees and commissions in Coeur d’Alene.

According to the City Council meeting packet prepared for this coming Tuesday’s meeting, Widmyer and the Rubber Stamps will approve several appointments.  One of those is listed as “Garry Stark (representing NIC) — Parking Commission.”  The North Idaho College Directory lists Garry Stark as NIC’s Assistant Director of Facility Operations.

“What difference – at this point, what difference does it make?” 

In October 2013 Widmyer had not yet been elected Mayor; he was still a Parking Commissioner.   He knew or should have known that the parking spaces so generously restricted for the use of Widmyer’s restaurant/bar by Stark were on a City street.   They belonged to the City, not to North Idaho College.   As the Assistant Director of Facility Operations at North Idaho College, Stark should have known that as well.

Neither Stark nor Widmyer had any legal authority to limit the on-street parking spaces’ use to only patrons of Widmyer’s restaurant/bar.  In fact, if one reads Idaho Code §§ 18-2403(1), 18-2403(2)(a), 18-2403(3), and 18-2403(5)(c), one could reasonably ask if one or more crimes against the people of the State of Idaho were committed.

Now former Parking Commissioner/present Mayor Widmyer is going to anoint the same Garry Stark to the City of Coeur d’Alene’s Parking Commission.  Isn’t that cozy?
