Another Mayor Arrested for Bribery

perez-hartford-ct-mayor The Hartford Courant is reporting that Hartford, CT, mayor Eddie Perez was arrested by Connecticut State Police today and charged with two counts of bribery, one count of fabricating evidence, and one count of conspiracy to fabricate evidence.

 The Courant story, headlined Hartford Mayor Perez Facing Bribery Charges, Will Turn Himself In Today, was written by reporters Jeffrey B. Cohen and Mark Pazniokas. 

In a similar Associated Press story headlined Hartford, Conn., mayor arrested on bribery charges,  writer Pat Eaton-Robb reported, “…the charges threaten to add his name to a steadily growing list of crooked politicians that has given this state the nickname ‘Corrupticut.’ “

    ALBANY, N.Y. — A federal grand jury in Albany returned an indictment today against Joseph L. Bruno, the former majority leader of the New York State Senate, Acting U. S. Attorney Andrew T. Baxter and Special Agent in Charge John F. Pikus of the Albany Division of the FBI announced. Bruno is charged with carrying out a scheme to defraud the State of New York and its citizens of the right to his honest services by soliciting private business from, and entering into direct and indirect financial relationships with, persons or entities who were pursuing interests before the New York State legislature or other state agencies.

    These stories help to remind ordinary
    citizens that:Money and Power corrupt
    and we have to be careful who we vote for and end up electing.Again,we
    have to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions.

    Alot of Politicians,even when their actions saunter into malfeasance or some nefarious situation,expect to be treated differently and they might think the rules don’t apply to them.

    Sometimes,other people enable the supposed wrong doing or try to let things slide unnoticed by the public.
