In a White House press briefing today, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly responded to comments made by Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson after she allegedly listened in on a personal telephone conversation from President Trump to the widow of Army SGT La David Johnson, a soldier killed recently in combat in Niger.
This is a YouTube video of General Kelly’s complete comments, including his answers to reporter’s questions.
The video ought to be played at middle and high school assemblies in every school in the country.
Unlike Congresswoman Wilson’s comments, General Kelly’s comments were informative and inspiring.
I watched it. He was elegant, personal, and very candid in the delivery of his comments. He definitely commands the room and holds one’s attention. I listened to Congresswoman Frederica Wilson as well and I wonder, how do people like her get elected? I cannot imagine it was because folks liked her hats, but you never know.

You summarized my reaction, too, only much better. When he was ready to take a question, he asked if any of the skews reporters were Gold Star parents or siblings. None were. Then he asked if any of them knew someone who was. The one who said he was got the question.
The members of SGT Johnson’s family can be completely forgiven for their part in Congresscum Wilson’s attack on President Trump. They were undoubtedly distraught. Wilson has now shown herself to be an exploitative, opportunistic political predator. My nickname for her, because of her glittery hats, is “The Rhinestone Cowpie.”

That is a very appropriate name for her! What really irked me, while I listened and maybe I heard incorrectly, but did he not say, that they (Congresswoman Wilson) would have needed to listen in on the calls? Then, I assume, she gathered whatever she could to trash President Trump? This was in context of his explanation of what used to be “sacred” in our country?

Apparently the phone that received the call had been put on speakerphone. The President’s call was prearranged, as they all are, so it was likely made to Mrs. Johnson’s phone if she has one. We don’t know from the skews reports or from General Kelly who else was in the car with Mrs. Johnson, but if the Army’s Casualty Assistance Officer was there, it is possible the President’s call could have been placed to the CAO’s phone.
The President’s call would not have been made to The Rhinestone Cowpie’s phone unless Mrs. Johnson requested it.
