180px-david-ortiz-batters-box School activities cuts?  The levy passed after the full-page ad last week which frightened the bee-geebers out of all the parents.  It claimed that, if the levy failed, there would be NO athletics, debate, music or activities programs, among other outrageous claims like no maintenance, no secretaries, etc.  When I saw that heavy-handed scare ad, I was upset.  But the levy passed, so what’s up with the cuts?

Any comments on this or other subjects?

  1. You can read this morning’s Press article about the budget cuts here: http://www.cdapress.com/articles/2009/04/28/news/news03.txt

  2. The state is cutting around 7.7% from education funding, even with a supplemental levy passing, school districts will be operating on slimmer budgets. If they are smart, they are also starting to cut back now in anticipation of budget cuts in coming years.

  3. Here’s an interesting video (2min 30sec) of Senator Arlin Specter, just one month ago, telling how important every one of the 41 Republican senators are for the checks and balances in our government. He says he would never go against his conscience just to win re-election.

Oops, that didn’t last long, did it?

guess you can’t trust those republican senators! 😉 (relax, it’s a joke!)

  6. Pariah, that’s an interesting article. Rumsfield didn’t allow waterboarding—was that a certain circumstance, or was he against it as a policy? Nancy Pelosi certainly never spoke up against it until just lately, and she was the senior member of that committee!

  8. The other day I visited the bank to cash a check. When the clerk gave me my change, I checked it over.

She asked if anything was wrong.

“No,” I told her, “I look through change because you never know when you’ll find something good.”

I’m somewhat of an amateur coin collector. About 4 years ago, I got some change at the Video Theater movie rental place, and among my change were four 1943 steel pennies.

This morning I visited Safeway. In my change I noticed that one of the dimes looked different. When I got home I checked it over and it turns out that the clerk gave me a silver dime, dated 1963.

Memo to everyone: Check your change! There might be something good in there!

  9. Whenever I traveled to foreign countries, I’d always come home with a few coins from each. I’d always take one of the coins and turn it into a charm for a woman’s charm bracelet for my mom. For my dad I’d buy a Zippo lighter and simply Super Glue the coin to it. Then I’d inscribe the lighter with the date of the visit and the country. He built a shadow box to hang on his ham radio shack wall and displayed the lighters in it.
