Today’s Press shows a front page photo of a CHS student standing on top of a car, leading a protest. Are we back in the 60’s again? Nope. They are upset about the new cuts in the activities budget, particularly after everyone was lead to believe that the passage of the levy two weeks ago would safeguard those programs and more.
The school district held a meeting last night to listen to public feedback. Good for them for having a meeting, but how did it go? I was unable to attend but I know Bill was there. Does anyone have a report about the meeing? Were folks upset? Were students there? How did the Board and Hazel handle it?
As Mary said, I went to Monday night’s SD 271 Board of Trustees meeting. The entire meeting was recorded for rebroadcast on CDA TV 19. I did make an audio recording. Here are links to two of the conversations during public comments. Turn on your computer sound and click on the person’s name to hear the speaker’s comment or question and Superintendent Bauman’s response.
Nancy Heffter: Asked about the accuracy of the full-page advertisement which supported levy passage and appeared in the April 20 Coeur d’Alene Press. (Was the ad deceptive?)
Jamie Esler: Asked why as a staff member he was told attendance at a District Calendar Committee meeting was restricted to committee members only. Later he learned members of the public had been allowed to attend and comment to Committee. (Did this violate Open Meeting Law or school policy?)
