Who’s the Nominee?

In late January 2009 Idaho’s freshman Congressman Walt Minnick named committees to help him select nominees he would interview for federal appointments.  The appointments would be made by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.

Minnick quickly picked the two nominees for the agriculture positions.  Then in late March he said that within two weeks he would identify the nominees for US Marshal and US Attorney for the District of Idaho.  Halfway true to his word,  Minnick named his US Marshal nominee on April 6.    So who is the nominee for arguably the most important position out of those four, the US Attorney?

Could it be that the nominating committee did its job too well and selected someone with too much honesty, integrity, and experience to suit the Obama administration?

We know the  Eastern Washington political powers-that-be desperately wants the Cowles choice, Spokane attorney Michael C. Ormsby, to be the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.   He was Senator Murray’s nominee.

We also know that President Obama only yesterday named Jenny Durkan as his nominee to be the US Attorney for the Western District of Washington.

But so far, our slick-sleeve congressman hasn’t identified his favorite for the US Attorney for the District of Idaho.  Why not?  Why the delay?  Who’s the nominee?

  1. To get a better idea of how the nomination process is influenced, read U.S. Attorney Picks Are Under Way in the May 20, 2009, The National Law Journal.
