Kootenai County Property Tax Notices

The 2009 Kootenai County property tax assessment notices were mailed yesterday.  Some of us received ours today.  The Coeur d’Alene Press  even ran a news article urging us to attend the budget hearings listed on the assessment notices, reminding us that it is the taxing district budgets and not the assessments that determine our property taxes.

One minor problem:  The assessments were mailed May 26.  The North Idaho College budget hearings were held April 22, 2009, over a month before the assessments were mailed out.

  1. This is interesting.

We just got our assessment. However, we live in a mobile home park and we do not pay any tax on the parcel that our home is on. We pay on the mobile. We have never received any notice of the sort that we got in the mail today. But, it was sent out to us anyway – I know exactly how much money the county charges the owner for this parcel of land to do business with the folks who have their homes here. WTH is going on?

  2. Stebbijo,

You should probably call the assessor’s office and ask. Maybe something in the law changed? Worse yet, maybe it didn’t and you will end up owing back taxes for several years. Did any of your neighbors get similar notices that they had not received in previous years?

  3. One of my neighbors received a similar notice but it does not reflect the same explanation of assessment. I have no idea – will probably have to go down and have someone explain it to me. I know one thing – I owe nothing on the property, we don’t own. The taxes on the mobile have always been included in the payment and that is paid by the escrow company. The only other thing I can think of is that the “parcel” is actually the mobile and if this is so – it was assessed to be almost 3000 dollars more than last year. The little blue letter was cute.

  4. Stebbijo,

If you received a bill for taxes that are supposed to be paid by your escrow company, call your escrow company immediately and find out what is going on.

  5. My assessment was more this year.My modest home is worth more and yet, in my neighborhood no homes have sold.I just know my property taxes will rise this December.Apparently,
the lil’ people aren’t paying enough in taxes but, the well-off might get a tax break for their sprawling estates.Heck, I need a tax break too.
    ;-(

  6. We’ll be keeping a tight eye on the CdA City Budget here, Kageman. If you’re a resident of the city, then that will most likely be your biggest tax hit this coming year.
