“Just Trust ‘Em!”

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:39 pm

woody CdA City Councilman Woody McEvers made some *amazing* statements during the deliberations on the zoning change for the Ed.Corridor properties last Tuesday night.  NIC and the Foundation were strongly pushing for the blank check of C-17 zoning, which would allow them to do almost anything, at almost any height, even near the river.  About 6 citizens spoke against the unrestricted zone, and one of them was the President of the Fort Grounds Homeowners Association, who spoke for a large number of the neighbors:  They want the more protective zone that NIC’s campus carries now, which is R-17.   Here’s what Woody said, as his reasons for supporting the full C-17:  (close paraphrase) Ya know all those people down at NIC and the Foundation are nice folks.  They’ve always been good about stuff.  I know there’s no plan, but we should just trust ’em.  After all, they’re the government, and if you can’t trust the government, who can you trust?  Woody went on to say: And if they want to sell off some of the dirt to make a little money, why not?  I say, go for it, we trust ya.

  1. Well, that just sucks all the oxygen out of the room, doesn’t it? Clearly Woody is as dumb as he looks. Woody, here is a clue. That land is being purchased with tax dollars. Since when is it legal to use tax revenue to fund “private for profit” businesses? Sorry Woody, I just couldn’t figure out how to ask that question using only words of one syllable.

  2. It’s safe to assume his unquestioning trust extends to the LCDC, the body over which the Council allegedly exercises oversight control.

  4. Believe it or not – but i actually caught parts of this meeting on cable. I thought Woody was being facetious – I could not beleive his statesments as genuine.

Then some attorney (?)for NIC said that he could not guarantee what kind of retail would come in to the ed corridor something like, “…wristwatches, I don’t know.”

I missed Dan if he testified but I caught Mary and Susie and that other women who asked very easy questions that could not be answered like, “Who’s paying for all of this?”

Mary asked for a fair appraisal of the property since we know that real estate has since bit the dust – fair but ignored.

I also thought the focus on getting a Master Plan was a fair concern but appeared to be totally ignored also.

Wood sounded pissed off during most of her testimony.

…anyway, we all know the rest of the story.
