Wallypog to Woody: “I’ve got some land to sell you…”

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:31 am

Here’s what Wallypog had to say about Councilman McEver’s official pronouncement that he just “trusts” NIC to do the right thing with the most open-ended zoning, C-17, for the mill site land.  Do you think Wallpog goes too far?

Would this ‘trust’ be the same ‘trust’ we once held for the Mayor promising that no city funds would go to the Kroc Center? Or is this the same ‘trust’ afforded Council-toady Kennedy and his no additional funds promise for the new library or selling the old library? Who does Woody think he is kidding?

Woody exactly what are you going to do (as you promise) if something does not go the way it should? You just handed these people a blank check and they can do whatever they want with it and you cannot stop it. The only thing you can do is say “Oh darn” I won;t make THAT mistake again. Well Woody THAT mistake has been made time and again. Just look at the emergency fund balance if you want proof. Puppet.

Hey Woody, I’ve got some prime land in the everglades to can have for only $3 million. TRUST me, it is a steal at this price.

  1. Woody said something like, “they’re our people” when talking about NIC. I would like to think that Woody’s people are all the citizens and taxpayers of Coeur d’Alene, not simply the insiders at NIC. Wallypog’s reaction is typical of people who feel that their voices and concerns are being ignored by decision makers.

  2. McEvers and any other public official is free to exercise unquestioning trust when conducting their personal affairs, however when conducting the public’s business as public officials they owe their constituents a duty of honest services. Though that term has a legal definition and criminal penalties for violation, the broader term requires them to examine all sides of an issue or proposition, not blindly accept whatever proponents tell them.

No, Wallypog did not go too far. McEvers has been a participant in some of City Hall’s deceptions. If he has been a witting and willing participant, then he is unsuitable for public service. If he has been an unwitting participant, then he lacks the critical thinking skills and discernment essential for a public official.

Dan, McEvers’ exact words were, “I mean, the Foundation, the college, they’re all our people, so I believe that the C-17’ll work.” Of course, he seemed to be including the Foundation and college people in his generalization, “No, we have to trust. God, this is government. If we can’t trust each other, we can just butt heads all day long and nothing gets done.” I don’t consider members of the NIC Foundation to be “government.”

  3. Wallypog, you did not go too far.
We have an epidemic of politicians forgetting who they work for.
They think of themselves as being part of an exclusive club when they talk about “our people”
It really is shocking, but what hasn’t been shocking lately? These type of politicians are what the Tea Parties are protesting.

  4. Do not forget that Woody, John Buning served on the Planning and Zoning Commission and are aware of the necessity of master planning large tracts of land submitted for annexation.
The attorney’s argument that the C17 zoning was necessary to avoid returning for Special Use Permits and taking up government time was without merit. Special Use Permits would not have been necessary had the entire parcel been master planned.

  5. And what’s wrong with a Special Use Permit? It is a safeguard. They would have to bring their PLAN forward, EXPLAIN it to the P&Z, city council and public and ASK for its approval…sounds like the responsible thing to do!

  6. I couldn’t agree with Wallypog more. Honestly they could have cardboard cutouts of most of our Council puppets sporting huge political smiles (a la Biden) and simply voting ‘yes, Ma-aam’ on everything. Make that ‘Mayor Ma-aam” as she has worked hard for the title and wants to hear it continuously and feels dissed otherwise.

  7. As Bill points out in post #2, it may be that Woody lacks critical thinking skills. Make no mistake about it. Councilman McEvers lacks critical thinking skills. For example, he said people want “stuff”. What critical thinking brought about that conclusion? He has no business being on the council making decisions for the governance of our city.
