Open Session, Wednesday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:40 am

There’s an interesting article about election compacting on the front page of today’s Press. We have so many little elections for highway districts, school districts, hospital districts, local city elections and of course county and state too. They are scattered all over the calendar and the voting places are all over town. It is downright confusing for voters.

What’s probably surprising to many citizens is that most of these elections are not run by the county elections department, they are run by the entity having the election. For example, the upcoming CdA School District Levy for $31.1 million dollars will be run entirely by the School District. They will create the ballots, man the voting places and count the ballots.

Any thoughts, comments or questions on this or any other topic?

  1. Amazing but I am learning that this is Coeur d” Alene. Isn’t or wouldn’t this be considered illegal? Are there any non-partial interests involved in this spending levy election? Who oversees the counting of the ballots? Why isn’t the county elections office involved in this? Isn’t this their job – voting and elections and aren’t they bonded to do this type of job? This sounds strange to me!

Another inquiry — I see and hear this name of this person running for this office but when or if does the voter who will be voting in the May 27 election see who is running for each office or see a copy of the ballot or see if there are any other issues that voters will be voting on? Where does one find out information about the candidates for any offices on the ballot? Seems like the voting public is being kept in the dark and then when you go vote – Surprise!! on the ballot that you are handed all these offices and all these candidates that you never know anything about? Does election information get mailed to area voters for these elections on May 20 & May 27? I want to vote responsible and informed!!!

Sorry another inquiry – Trustees for Areas 4 & 5 for SD271 postions – when do we as “patrons” get to know them? Who are they? How do they plan to help run the school board? What are their backgrounds? Or will it be the same “good ol’ boy network? Well, how do you contact them??

Inquiring Mind wants to know and as a voter I think I would have a right to know who and what I am voting for?
