Open Session, Sunday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 10:14 am

We’ve got a list of important dates head, here are some of the big ones:

  • April 29th, School Levy information meeting at Lakes Middle School, organized by the School District.
  • May 13th, Education Corridor forum for Taxpayers at the CdA Inn, organized by citizens.
  • May 20th, CdA School District Levy election, vote at any public school
  • Mary 27th, local primary elections for county and state positions

Do you have comments or questions about these or any other issues?

  1. Writing in response to a letter to the editor in the Press, online commenter Bob Loblaw made an interesting and graphic comparison of our local runaway taxation to a school of piranha. His point was that while each piranha takes a relatively small bite, the school quickly strips away the flesh leaving only bone.

  2. Mary, you have given so much of your time and talent to inform the citizens of issues that concern good government. I think it is highly appropriate that May 27, primary election day, should be named after you. May 27th. I like it.

(First comment is serious.. Second comment, well,,,,

  3. Gary, I had no idea I made that mistake! Thanks for telling me, I’ll fix it right now. You know, sometimes the fingers get going and have a memory of their own. You are sweet for telling me in such a nice way. (I fixed the last May 27th, which originaly said “Mary 27th”)

  4. Great editorial in today’s Coeur d’Alene Press regarding sidewalks and the associated costs to repair them. Does anyone know if the few property owners who fixed their sidewalks based on the city’s demand letter will be eligible for reimbursement?

  5. 2C3I,

Seems to me I read after the last Council meeting that reimbursement may be considered for those who complied with the threat letter.

The repairs need to come from the General Fund, not from foregone taxes. The City can cut back on some of its fund balance (slush fund) projects in years to come. Maybe next time around the Mayor and Council will do something novel — think first, then act. Naahhh. Won’t happen.

  6. I could not make it to the School Levy Program on Tuesday. Could someone tell me if anyone asked a question about the lack of any cost estimate to remodel the existing school. I was hoping to see something about this issue in the CdA Press article concerning the meeting.
