The LCDC and Your Property Taxes

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 7:48 am

The article begins this way:

Until recently, the creation of an urban renewal district was a convenient way for public officials to fund pet projects without voter approval.

But that’s not my favorite quote.

No my favorite quote is from Page 2 of the essay found in Cascade Commentary newsletter from the Cascade Policy Institute in Oregon. It goes like this:

…urban renewal skews the property tax system, drawing resources from schools and other government agencies to subsidize developers.

Oops! So much for the LCDC being “for the kids.”

Here is the link to the entire article (a PDF document), titled Urban Renewal Drains Resources, Confuses All.

  1. I is my sincere hope that Kootenai County agencies and our elected officials take on this issue of LCDC draining the resources. I believe that citizens need to entice our police, firefighters, teachers, and others who do the heavy lifting to keep things going in county to join together to say enough is enough with LCDC money being diverted to developers. How to do is is the question. I have been waiting for our County Commissioners to weigh in on this issue.

  2. dan; i looked up opression for another story and as i continued my search it led me to procedural unconsibility: is based on factors, such as consumer ignorance or a great deal of unexplaned fine print, that serve to deprive a party of meaningful choice. seems to fit in with just about everything the l.c.d.c. council, dist271, and education corridor are all about. unfortunately the regular citizen doesn’t read the fine print. thanks to you, mary and bill along with others who agree or disagree we still have some voice.
