Over on the CDA Press blogs, there was a lot of noise regarding the LCDC and the SD271 levy. Quite a few times people wrote, “No levy until the LCDC is out of the picture.”
It’s true that the LCDC and School District are working together to remediate Sorensen elementary. (And stay tuned to OpenCdA for information on that topic as it comes available.) But my question to you: Did the LCDC’s involvement with the School District poison the levy?
While,LCDC is not a very popular
corporation and almost everything they do benefits the rich or well-off
merchants and developers. The recession itself is also, wreaking havoc on peoples wallets, with skyrocketing, record energy prices. It’s not a good time to ask for more tax dollars.
My dad told me, his taxes would raise by $600 dollars if this school levy passed.
I went down to NIC to vote and I was the only one there after 4:00. So,I was thinking this voter turnout would be dismal. Not much of a voter increase from last fall.

people don’t differentiate between lcdc, school district levies, county assessor mistakes and rising gasoline prices, they just see more dollars out of their pocket and lash out the only way they can by saying no. but even then less than 8000 knew enough or cared enough to vote.

reagan,
I must disagree. The ONLY reason I personally voted against this levy is the lack of accountability and the fact that the LCDC is involved. I would love to see this school get, preferrably, remodeled or a new one if in fact that was what the monies were used for. I do not believe paying a developer that has millions of dollars one single dime for any “for profit” project that does not bring in jobs. I’m talking about real jobs. Not the service jobs or the temporary construction jobs.

concerned citizen, how is lcdc involved?

The question is, how are they NOT involved? It is a fine dance with “tax payers” money to benefit the “STAKEHOLDERS”. Even David Copperfields tricks are nothing more than illusions. Once you figure the trick out, it is not so impressive anymore and people actually get tired of them.
