Harp Events

Filed under: General — Bill @ 2:00 pm

Do you like harp music?  If you do, or if you’ve never heard live harp music but like the thought of music without electronic amplification, here are some upcoming events by students of Leslie Stratton Norris.  Most last one hour, and they’re FREE!

Thursday, May 29th, at 7:00 p.m.:  Students ages 9 through high school will perform a variety of music in their spring recital.  It will be at First Baptist Church, 5th and Wallace in Coeur d’Alene.  (Note:  If you think “students” means unskilled, think again.  At the conclusion of her students’ recitals, Leslie usually performs one number herself.)

Saturday, May 31st, at 1:30 p.m.:  Melissa Achten presents her senior recital.  It will be at the Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington in Spokane.  Melissa is a very accomplished harpist.

Sunday, June 1st, at 3:00 p.m.:  The Ladies of the Lake adult harp ensemble will present their spring recital of classical, popular, and easy-listening music at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room, 702 Front Avenue in Coeur d’Alene.

Remember:  All these events are free!  If you can, go and encourage the students and Leslie.

  1. This is a performance not to be missed. Leslie is an accomplished harpist whose repertoire includes both classical and jazz pieces. The Holmberg Trust annual Christmas gift to the community included Leslie and George Conrad and was a wonderful evening. I recently attended the fifty group harpist performance Leslie organized. It was truly memorable. Mark your calendars for this upcoming event.

  2. Harp music must have wonderful therapeutic affects because our daughter, who is a nurse in Tri Cities, reports her hospital has harpists playing in the hallways once in a while. She said it really calms all the patients and staff alike.

  3. They have dogs brought in to visit any interested patient too, Susie. Just thought you’d appreciate that.

  4. Harps produce a naturally full, resonant sound that seems to sound good in any room regardless of the room’s acoustic qualities or size. It fills the foom’s space. It is pacifying sound. The recitals only last an hour. A lot of parents bring smaller children to hear Mom or sis or brother play, and it is very unusual for the smaller children to get fidgety and restless. The younger children seem to be naturally enthralled with the harp music.

  7. Mary, Both Grafton Corruption and Amelie, my standard Poodles, will be tested for Delta certification as therapy dogs late this summer. The examination is extensive, and not all dogs are certified. I hope mine pass. By the way, Grafton just earned his first AKC title today. He is now Grafton Corruption CGC.

  8. Susie,

I can see it now: You and GC are appearing at your first AKC National Obedience Invitational and the public address announcer says…

“Ladies and gentlemen. Representing Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Grafton Corruption.”

    And everyone will know.
