Open Session, Monday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 9:29 am

180px-Lego_Mindstorms_NXT_Robot The First Lego League robotics tournament was at Post Falls High School on Saturday, and it was the LARGEST IN THE WORLD!  There were 67 teams competing, so, with all the kids, coaches, parents and volunteers, there were probably 2000 people there.  I was a volunteer and was amazed and impressed with the skill, motivation, enthusiasm and teamwork of the kids, who were 4th — 8th graders.  This morning’s CdA Press referred to the tournament as “sports for nerds”, but these kids were anything but nerdy—they were outgoing, fun, cool kids, who are also very smart.  Good on them!

Any other news or ideas on your mind?

  1. I agree that the press article was slightly condescending but the reality is that robotics is the future of everything from heavy manufacturing and mining to intricate surgeries.

“Any other news or ideas on your mind?”

I posted a few comments on the “Thanksgiving” link because there wasn’t a [I hate to use the term] Wild Card link. Is this a “open season” Link? There are many events happening outside of CdA that can be commented on….

  2. Leslie Stratton Norris, harpist, will perform on Thursday, December 17, 7:00 p.m. at the Jacklin Arts Center in Post Falls. This free event is a holiday gift to the community from the Trustees of the Jeanne E. Holmberg Memorial Trust. For additional information call 667-4752.

  3. Yes, the “Open Sessions” are your chance to talk about anything and everything. We ususally try to have one each week, but with the recent elections we’ve been distracted.

Your Thanksgiving comments are interesting, here are those from the last three days. They might get more notice here:

#1. I’m thankful for many things, one of which is the fact that the Post Falls Dam hasn’t been targeted for removal…yet.
The same forces that are having dams removed around the country are currently working on the Snake and Columbia dams, but their arguments are the same that could take out the PF dam, whether or not it has a FERC license.
If that happened, the shoreline between high and low water marks would look like the shore of the Spokane River at Post Falls just before the dam when the river is “down”.
In short, VERY ugly. What would be the ramifications?
Low water on the River causing drastic reduction of recreational/tourist use; possible EPA red flags regarding discharged Sewer Treatment discharges at CdA and Post Falls.
A major drop in tourism due to the shoreline becoming so ugly and the subsequent reduction in taxable values.
A HUGE reduction of property values on the River and Lake Coeur d’Alene (see above sentence).
Like I said- I have much to be thankful for.

#2. I’m also thankful that someone illegally hacked into the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Center (CRU) and discovered that the $trillion Global A-warmist propaganda screeching was the biggest fraud in scientific history.

A well done video and written explanation at this link—

I would be even more thankful if lawsuits were filed against the UEA, Penn State and the endowments of every other University that have participated in this hoax for the damage they’ve done to citizens and corporations. These lawsuits would be in the $Trillions. Smart lawyers who can smell $Billions in fees are probably gearing up for battle as you read this.

#3. I’m also thankful that some Americans remember that December 7th is PEARL HARBOR DAY and that there are still almost 2000 American skeletons entombed in the diesel oozing carcass of the once mighty USS Arizona. If they could come back to life, how bewildered they would be at the emaciation of the United States. An Arizona/USA analogy is uncomfortably accurate and too poignant.
…and I’m thankful for true scientists like Dr.Robert Carter, who has fought the “trendy” global warming hoax with accurate scientific principles of peer review and transparency. His ice core sampling of the last 10,000 years makes the globaloney warmers’ tree ring results look like the goofy amateur bodgeup they are.

And I’m thankful that hypocrites will be on display in Copenhagen next week consuming more CO2 using their 1400 limos and 140 private jets than the combined CO2 use of 60 developing countries use in an entire year.

  4. A recent issue of Time had a story about our troops in “TheCan.” There was a pic of a grunt watching a group of muslim afghans with high-powered night surveillance. He was trying to determine if they were “friendly” or terrorists planting ied’s.

Why does the ‘brass’ think they can win a war by being PC? What is a group of men doing huddled at night? Why not issue a blanket curfew and shoot anything that moves as we did in
    WW2?
We just bought 10000 new ‘super humvees’ with ied protection at $500000 each for the troops.
Why not declare war on people out at night unless they had a license to be out? This ‘war’ is going to drag on and on unless there is a Patton in charge….not a guy that acts like P. Diddy’s valet.

  5. Some idiot swede from Minny throws tomatoes (which are probably hard this time of year) from two stories up at Sarah Palin and her family and not a word in the national news?

Question: If some neo-commie hurts/kills Palin, what will happen?

  6. From 1776 to 1983 it took the USA 207 years to accumulate a $1.7 Trillion national debt. This included 2 world wars a war between the states, the cold war, Korean and Vietnam wars, and Iraq and Afganistan and the various federal giveaways.

    http://www.data360.org/graph_group.aspx?Graph_Group_Id=32

Under the Democrats Pelosi, Reid, and Obama (The Axis of Ego) the national debt has accumulated at the rate of $147 Billion per MONTH since October ’09.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN0418093920091204

That’s $1.7 Trillion JUST THIS YEAR. And if the prime rate and unemployment keep going up under the Demostruction of the economy, expect the deficit to be 10-20% higher.

How’s that hopey changey thing working out for the “Yes, we canned it” folks?

  7. It’s extremely important to teach 6 year-year-olds how bad America has been. Quiz them about which Presidents were slave owners, etc.,etc……if you’re a card-carrying communist.
Here is the way America’s history is about to be taught to the kids.

Bighollywood.com is one of Andrew Breitbart’s websites that gives info about hellywood that really upsets the socialists there. It’s well worth bookmarking.

  9. Steve Smith,”retired” editor of the Spokesman Fishwrap, once said he didn’t know of any conservative journalists who could replace fauxconservative Dan Oliveri if he quit.

Heads up Spokie Jokie editor (whoever you are). Here’s a REAL conservative to balance out that money-losing vat of collectivists.

  10. One only has to voyeuristically peek into the wretched world of HBO snarkism to see why that paper’s readership is going down faster than The Cheetah’s bimboes.

    http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/hbo/2009/dec/10/mamajd-update-helping-sarah/

Why, one might wonder, does HBO regular MAMJD hate her fellow cda citizens so deeply? She must have idylly been chewing demo talkingpoint upchuck as she posted that Ruthie Johnson was the only “prominent Republican” that she saw from her lucky perch close to the Palins…courtesy of ex-cda coach Dean Lundblad.

Coach Lundblad must be distraught that he contributed to mamajd’s rancid disrespect of his past students, faculty members, teachers and other cda residents who have supported him and the cda school system.
