Do Ads help NIC?

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:01 am

Here’s an interesting email from one of our readers.  Do you agree?

Hi Mary!  I’ve always been perturbed about the amount of money NIC obviously spends advertising its program to the public at large.  I’m talking about billboards, movie theaters, television, etc.  I see their messages all the time so it’s not just a small campaign.  I doubt if the advertisements are really reaching many potential students who don’t already know of the programs they offer so they probably aren’t cost effective.  I also question why a public education institution feels it has the money to spend and need to advertise its programs that much.  They could get free public announcement spots for most of their information.

  1. Forget about NIC advertising. Let’s talk about Democrats and Jobs.

Now Congressional Democrats are urging President Obama to focus on jobs, not health care. They say we need a jobs bill. The best thing Democrats can do for this nation is get out of the way. Jobs will come from the private sector of our economy, not from a jobs bill. Of course, it won’t be about jobs at all. It will be all about politics now that independent voters in Massachusetts, of all places, elected a conservative republican. The Dems just don’t get it.

  2. OK, let’s NOT talk about Democrats and Jobs. Lets talk about…NIC ads?

  3. Gary, that’s why I started the Open Session above, because it doesn’t seem like anyone want to talk about NIC’s spending on advertising. Please feel free to add any topic to the Open Session!

  4. I also have wondered why they advertise inasmuch as this is a community college. The throw away class brochures also seem to be a waste of money. All information should be available on the NIC website.

  5. Thanks for the support Susie. I’m the reader that originally raised this issue. I’m glad it bothers someone besides me. I was beginning to think my concern was irrelevant. I’m going to ask Christie Wood what she think about it.
