  1. I like Jimmy’s takeoff on Idaho’s official motto: Esto perpetua – Let it be perpetual. So evidently Coeur d’Alene’s motto is Esto perpetua corruptus – Let it be perpetually corrupt.

  2. I like the way Jimmy includes some of the key personalities in this drama, including one of the questionable voters, with the crown, next to Dan English on the left side. My favorites, of course, are the sad-but-true CdA voters in the lower corner, just looking for justice but are ignored by the power players hiding behind Simpson’s robes. Good job Jimmy B.!

  3. Perhaps Jimmy could name the players in the cartoon, aside from Brannon and Simpson, who are already labeled?

  4. Seems pretty obvious to me: Left to Right: questionable voter Nancy White, County Clerk Dan English, Prosecutor Barry McHugh, Judge Simpson, City Attorney Mike Gridley, City councilman Mike Kennedy and CdA Mayor Sandi Bloem. Citizen Jim Brannon is being “quashed” beneath the throne of justice/corruptus, with proof of voter fraud in one hand and the Judge’s mandate of a $40,000 bond to keep the legal challenge alive in the other. The citizens of CdA are in the corner looking for justice in the election system, but they are ignored by the power players hiding behind the cloak of the judge.

Did you know that Judge Simpson was a District Court for a whole 2 days before he got this election challenge case dumped on his desk?

  5. This cartoon is WONDERFUL, however I thought the woman with the crown was Susan Weathers? The guy next to the obvious Dan English is Barry McHugh. We know who Bloem and Kennedy are without question. The guy next to Simpson on the right must be Haman. Made my whole day seeing this!

  6. It is truly amazing that Simpson, as a new District Court judge, would have been assigned a case of this complexity. Who made that assignment, and why? This is very likely to end up in the Supreme Court. Ysursa and Wasden have been neglecting the “housekeeping” for Idaho’s election laws for years. It is their responsibility to keep the legislators informed so that the legislators can keep the laws up to date. If I were a conscientious legislator, I would be screaming at Ben and Larry.

Here is an example of Ysursa’s and Wasden’s dereliction of duty: When does an election end? When is it officially over? We don’t know, because Ben the Basque and Larry the Little haven’t defined that statutorily for the legislators. That is important, because of the intimidation being inflicted by the City with the encouragement from Ben the Basque and Larry the Little. I wonder how many people know that the City Attorney’s office has threatened legal action against people who have supported Jim Brannon’s legal contest of the election? We won’t hear those questions asked by the Press, of course. That’s because the decorations have been removed, the gym has been closed up, and the Press is finally thinking of showing up for the dance. The Press‘s motto ought to be “Leading the charge to ignorance and obscurity.”

  7. Stebbijo,

For all we know, you could be right. It could be Weathers. Cartoons are like radio — you can let your imagination run wild.

  8. Bill:

You said “I wonder how many people know that the City Attorney’s office has threatened legal action against people who have supported Jim Brannon’s legal contest of the election”.

    Can you us more?

  9. Bill,

It almost makes you think – why did Governor Otter appoint him in the first place? Talk about perfect timing! Gov appoints Magistrate to First District Court

I wonder who else submittedtheir application to Robert Hamlin, Executive Director of the Idaho Judicial Council, who happened/happens to sit on the same Supreme Court Committee with the wife of Judge Simpson before his District Court appointment?

    Nah, no problem there.

  10. I mean really, I just gotta tell you more. After all, it is Sunshine Week. From what I have researched, but I am not an attorney, there is no written protocol for the formation of Supreme Court Committees according to Michael Henderson, Supreme Court legal cousel. Howver, actually – there is a state law that allows ONLY for the appointment of Idaho Bar Members to these committees. But, like I said, I am not an attorney.

Now. what is really interesting about this mix – if you take a good look is Justice Trout is the chair. She ran against Brannon’s attorney, Star Kelso, for Supreme Court Justice and won. It was not nice.

Here are the strategic members to the Idaho Supreme Court Wellness Committee:

    Wellness Committee
    Chair: Hon. Linda Copple Trout
    Hon. Roger Burdick –
    Patricia Tobias
    Hon. Gregory Culet
    Hon. Carl Kerrick
    Hon. Debra Heise
    Hon. Thomas Borresen
    Hon. Michael Redman
    Suzanne Johnson
    Robert Hamlin
    Thomas Lopez
    Jonelle Simpson
    Doug Copsey
    Jody Zaula
    Andrea Patterson, Reporter

Take the time to read this. It’s just full of gooey looey sunshine stuff.

I can’t frigging beleive it. It all reads better than any soap opera and I just know there must be more.

    …to be continued.

  11. P.S.

I have an idea why Judge Mitchell recused himself from the Brannon case. It’s because he could not juggle two BIG cases at once. Someone had to take CV-2009-0008934. He needed another hand.

  12. LTR,

In response to your question in Comment 8: Yes. I’m working on a post now.
