Open Session, Sunday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 10:56 am

As we wrap up a great 4th of July weekend and start thinking about the busy week ahead, please remember the Midtown meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm in the Community Room of the new Library.

On Thursday, July 10th at 5:30pm in the same room of the Library will be the big presentation on the Ed. Corridor by the experts. They’ll reveal the Master Plan and talk about the Financial Impact study. And, unless there’s a change, the public can only “submit” questions in writing…arg! Any comments? Other ideas?

  1. Here’s a link to MIG, Inc.’s prelim drawing of University Place – Coeur d’Alene.

  2. That’s hardly the plan, but it is revealing. That middle shot looks to me like commercial development, unless they’re modeling classrooms after Starbucks in a strip mall. Again, the Education Corridor is hardly about education. It’s all about who’s been lined up and promised the lucrative development and lease agreements. It’s shameful that responsible officials are hiding this simple truth from the public, and offensive that it’s being done under the guise of “education.”

  3. The red cross-hatch along Northwest Blvd looked like mixed use commercial.

  4. It’s so hard to tell what’s going on with that one small view of the site plan. It’s way too small to read the details and the entire site is not shown. The text explains that the corridor will be “15.5 acres”, so can we assume that 1.5 of the 17 acre DeArmond Mill will be commercial? Or is it more—does the Master Plan include the Harbor Center (old Osprey) building and 7+ acres of land?

It would certainly be helpful to know some of these details before the presentation, so the right questions can be asked.

  5. Dan and Mary,

I’m sorry about the lack of detail and information in the drawing from the MIG website, but then again, it’s more than we’ve seen from the City or NIC.

  6. That’s for sure, Bill. We’ve received nothing from the city or NIC. And you need not apologize. I do think that some of our elected officials should have that attitude, however.

  7. Mary, you say “We’ve received nothing from the city or NIC.” when in fact we have. We have received a higher tax bill and higher tuitions with Ms. Bells raise. What are they thinking? At a time when most are just getting by and others are loosing their jobs, this local govt can REALLY justify pay raises?

  8. I went to the fireworks in Bayview,
saturday for the first time. What a spectacular fireworks show on the water! My wife says she wants to go every year now.

If I was running the fireworks show,
I’d play the ‘Star Spangled Banner’
    during the extravaganza.

  9. Kageman, the Boston Pops orchestra plays the Star Spangled Banner during their fireworks and it’s great—it inspires me even though I just watch it on TV!
