  1. Good idea Dan. We need an Open Session to catch all the other comments about what’s going on in town. We’ve been a bit focused on the Ed. Corridor thing!

I was thinking about that terrible fire in Spokane and how if that happened in an even more densely populated Fort Grounds/Ed Corridor area, how would all those people get out when all the streets empty onto Northwest Boulevard…sorry that’s where my mind is right now.

  2. We have a place on Cave Bay, just across from East Point on Coeur d’Alene Lake. There’s one very narrow road in and out. All the homeowners have been told if there’s a fire, we’re all to go to our boats and evacuate by boat. The road needs to be kept clear of everything but emergency vehicles. We have a plan, and every residence is made aware of it.

We were there yesterday afternoon to put our boat in the water. Our marina is sheltered by a pretty good breakwater, but the boats were still straining at their lines because of the winds.

Mary, Spokane County has an outstanding unusual occurrences plan. We can only hope that Kootenai County and Coeur d’Alene have a similar plan, but I’m skeptical. I recall when Wolfinger was still on the Council, someone asked about an emergency plan at a Council meeting. His response was they have a plan but can’t discuss it publicly! What good is an emergency response plan that is unknown to the public/potential victims? Everyone needs to be aware of the parts of the plan that will affect them and guide their behaviors in an emergency.

  4. According to the news tonight, a multi-agency emergency exercise was held last month in the vicinity of the fire. When was the last exercise held in Kootenai County or the city of Coeur d’Alene?

  5. By the way, now that it’s over, I can remind you all that on Slurpee Day — 7/11 to be exact — you can walk into any 7/11 store and get a free Slurpee drink. Betcha didn’t know that!

  7. Slurpees always remind me of the movie line our boys used to laugh about, “please do not drink directly from the slurpee machine!”
