Sity of Exsellans

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 2:49 pm

Anyone else catch this in today’s CdA Press (Page A13)?

Now, I’m a writer, so I know that sometimes junk like this gets published. Even though there are many eyes that look things over, (yes, boys, we call them) boners do crop up.

The best one I saw in a technical book went like this, “Hey [author], come up with a good example here because I’m just not understanding this material.” A classic.

Anyone else notice in the City’s public hearing notice that the LCDC is somehow seeking “air rights” above its district? It’s in the modification plan, item 11. Could there be a new helipad in Coeur d’Alene’s future? And what does air rights have to do with annexing Sorenson and Winton?

  1. Dan,

Air rights are worth money. That’s why LCDC is so interested in air rights.

  2. Air rights traditionally involve the air space above streets and alleys. The pedestrian bridge from the parking garage to the hotel shops utilizes air rights. Cities disdain the skywalk system such as the one in Spokane because they take foot traffic from the sidewalks. I think that they should be eliminated from the downtown design guidelines.

  4. I loved the Skywalk system (we call it the skyway)in Minneapolis because it was always safer and better kept than the public city streets. There are 8 miles of sjyway in Minneapolis and 5 miles in St. Paul. The replacements even wrote a song about them– remember this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxls3Zs_BHY
